You heard it right. A contest. For sci-fi / fantasy. This contest can involve anything from either genre, but there's only one medium: prose. Why, you ask? Because writing is hard. Specifically, writing well is hard.
So here's your chance to show me what you've got, literature community. For my part, every entry will be read and critiqued, so long as it's within the guidelines of the contest. And I'm a stickler about the rules. Believe you me, I'm LOOKING for a reason to shoot you down.
Don't give it to me.
The Rules
Read 'em carefully.
*Deadline: Feb 15, 2008
*Genre: Sci-fi / Fantasy
*Medium: Prose
*Max Words: 10,000 (or thereabouts)
*Language: English
*Submission: A link should be noted to my account. I'll note you back with a reply, informing you that it's been received. The submitted link must go to an account / deviation on DA.
*Date: Some people are sticklers about when your piece was written. Honestly, I don't care. I want your best work. You are, however, challenged and encouraged to write new and original fiction for this contest. I find that newer pieces are often better written than older works.
The Prizes
And now, the good stuff -- though it's surprisingly simple.
First place:
*One year DA subscription.
*Journal feature and write-up.
Second place:
*Three month subscription.
*Journal semi-feature and small write-up.
Disclaimer
Basically, I reserve the right to disqualify anyone, for any legitimate reason, as I see fit. I need at least ten entries for the contest to work, so if you don't see ten entries, you won't see any prizes at the end.
(That means you need to get your friends in on it.)
You are by no means obligated to

me for updates or anything, but do check back if you're interested -- as there may be changes.
And donations from any random, gracious passerby are greatly appreciated.
So there you have it. Let's see some entries!
Devious Comments
--
Thou shalt not run from the face of death
Thou shalt not wrestle with fate
Thou shalt not break under the oceans
Thou shalt take thine comrades under thine wings
Thou shalt not let rivers of sadness flow
I will be sure to spread word and write something to make it way more than ten entries.
Good luck to all!
Will you be writing as well?

"Yo. Ore no na wa Inigo Montoya. Kisama wa chichi o koroshita. Shinu kakugo shiro."
I haven't entered in a contest before, but I've been thinking about it for a while. Hopefully I'll be able to make the deadline (I'm a slow writer xD)

To be insane is a privilege because once your brain begins to think realistically, the bliss of insanity disappears and you are left with the woes of society.

"I've got a crazy uncle who thinks God is a fresh-water clam."
"Mm. I'd have to disagree; I think God would be a river otter."
*gasp* "Then God is ADORABLE!"
