Alright, so 2007 is now officially done & over with (well, it was done a week ago, but bear with me here).

And damn, what a year it was here at deviantART! In the last year we've experienced (among other things) the addition of Deviant's Appreciation Day, a campaign to help end breast cancer, new additions to the AR Team, the introduction of several new features to try out, an onslaught of Pokemon Gijinka/Pixel ID/Nyu art memes, one major tournament for original characters, one popular anthro artist being unjustly banned, another extremely popular artist having some tragic problems with her fame, some overly complicated changes with the submission process, a freakishly huge amount of Gurren Laggan fan art (was that this year's "it" anime or something?), the first time I've ever seen one piece of art get two Daily Deviations, & as usual, too much unnecessary drama.

...Oh yeah, & there was a lot of great artwork as well.

Seriously, this was one amazing year here at DA when it came to quality artwork (at least in my opinion). And much like last year, I wanted to pull off some big special showcasing what I think was the best we had to offer here. Last year I featured 50 amazing Deviations...But what we had this year was just too mindblowing. How mindblowing? Well, this year I had to up the featured number to 100 Deviations.

Yes, 100 amazing works of art! I loved them a bunch, & I hope you will too. And I combed the last 365 days to search for the best stuff, & the end result is something different from last year: We have 80 Deviations that kicked ass & garnered at least 75 faves ("platinum status", in my opinion) which they 100% deserved, & 20 deviations that I personally loved & adored, yet had to sadly ask the usual question of "You'll gladly give 100 faves to that crude crayon drawing of Axel doing Shego, but you won't even bat an eye at this? What the %&#$ is wrong with you people??" Those underfaved Deviations deserve their spots among the best here as well, & here's hoping this gives them some of the attention they deserve.

So what do they all get for their greatness, aside from being featured here & being named the best of 2007 by me? Well, they also get the Platinum Fefcaine Award:



The highest honor the I can dole out (for now), given away only on special occasions to the most incredibly amazing Deviations that exist. It is truly something to behold...& it has a white chocolate center as well! And for this truly special occasion, let's mix in some little pretzel bits & cinnamon with the chocolate, then serve it all up with a side of champagne!

You know, I think this needs to be...Bigger.

And you know what else? I think I know how to solve that problem. It's just a little something extra...But what say we give one glorious piece of art the title of DEVIATION OF THE YEAR? A title that comes with a year's subscription as a prize?

Yeah, that may very well work here.

And what's with the unnecessary bold & underline fonts as well? Well, I just wanted to draw your attention towards the most important parts here, such as the fact that you'll be voting for the winner (uh, sorry for doing that again).

Yes, you're in control here, people! Just look through the best that are featured here, find some that you love, & then cast your vote for them! The basic rules? You can vote for as many Deviations as you want, be it one, three, five, ten...Well, you get the idea. And when you're ready, just send your votes to me via the form of a note. And if you want, you can even vote for something I didn't feature here as a write-in (I don't know if it'll be any effective, but you can do it)!

Here's the thing: Since this whole Best Of 2007 feature consists of my opinion, it's pretty damn obvious that I've missed some choice Deviations. Oh, what am I saying? I know I missed a lot of choice Deviations! Heck, what you're about to see here was actually cut down from a larger batch of nominees! I had to sadly leave out both prominent, popular artists & personal faves...Hell, there are even some whole categories that didn't get included in the end (like Photography, Literature, Flash).

So basically, some people are definitely going to disagree with my choices (or just plain argue, whatever). And I'll probably end up replying "Well, do you think you can do a better job?"

...Well, can you?

So here's the deal: In addition to voting, you can also create your own little "Best Of 2007" feature (damn, I did it again)! Just put one up in your journal or as a news article (wherever you think your writing is most appropriate) showcasing some of your personal favorites from 2007. It can include stuff from this feature, Deviations I missed, a mix of both, etc. Just show me what you loved in the past year!
