After a break on this project, I and =GoranDA present you the 9th edition of the Self-Portraits ShowCase.

This time with the collaboration of `igy and *wynnesome we went further on our idea to present the gems of the Self-Portrait gallery and asked one of our collaborators to choose a single a deviant and to present us the artist.
Given that this was my time to publish the article I asked that the deviant was from the Artistic Nudes Community.

I don't know whether *eggflesh has been shooting artistic nude self-portraits for a long while and just now started his dA account, or whether this is all-around a new venture for him. But when I view his gallery, I get the impression of a creative and talented person who is jumping full force into a path of discovery. I can't say that every one of his photographs is a masterpiece. However what I can say is that in every photo I see a spirit of free experimentation, uncluttered by preconceptions or prejudices of what "you can't do" or "you shouldn't do." He is trying it all and finding out for himself what works and what doesn't work as well.



In recent conversation through comments, he first said to me, "Mostly everything I do is by accident. That's why I never do anything on purpose." But when I responded that many of his pieces look too cleanly composed to have come about entirely by accident, he continued, "Well, there is some thought put into it. I find the right surroundings, think about the pose, then set the timer for 30 seconds and get into place. About 80% of the time I get the shot I want in the first take."

80% in the first take is pretty darned impressive for any style of photography in my book, much less artistic nude self-portraits! But it goes to show that when you have a clear idea of what you want from the final image, and put some thought into how to create that, you stand a much better chance of coming out in the end with something you are happy with. Even if the results end up not exactly what you thought you were going to get in the initial idea!

I like the fact that *eggflesh seems to be comfortable with his body. His nudity is neither gratuitous nor shy, but simply matter of fact. He's not afraid to photograph himself from curled up tight to stretched out, from rear, side, and the dreaded full-frontal views, in settings ranging from industrial to natural. His compositions explore interesting angles, and he's not afraid to use his body as the focal point of a closeup or as a smaller part of a larger frame.



His photographs show a nice sense of composition and good clean exposures. I am very much looking forward to seeing how he continues to explore and develop as a photographer in general and as an artistic nude photographer, model, and self-portrait artist.
