Do you ever spend any time clicking on any of the ads you see here on dA? Okay, I can hear people groaning already "I haaaaate advertising.." but in all fairness our advertising team works pretty hard to make sure we have as relevant of ads as possible, and sometimes they are not only relevant to this community, but on occasion they lead to something absolutely amazing.
Which leads me to the whole point of this article, or as it turns out to some degree, the whole PowerPoint of this article.
Whilst checking the ad content I saw one for the site
Art of Office and my first thought was, "Art for my office?". Well, I could not have been more off the mark. What it turned out to be was a style and form of art that I was previously unaware of for the most part.
Art of Office showcases work created entirely in programs from Mac Office, done in PowerPoint, Excel and Word, and there is some seriously mind-blowing work up there.
I mean, look who the featured artist is currently. None other than Devo founder. visual artist, graphic designer, short film maker, and composer
Mark Mothersbaugh utilizing Word to showcase his series of postcard art that he has been doing for going on 30 years now as a personal and artistic diary.
But, it gets even cooler than that. I then found a member of deviantART on there as well. His work can be found at
Prince-Of-PowerPoint over there as well as ~
Prince-of-Powerpoint here in our esteemed community.
Overall, I have to say I was instantly absorbed by the work here, and became immediately lost on the site for hours being blown away by things like
12-Ceasers done in Excel. Up till this week, hearing the name Excel made me want to cringe and cry and made me think of banal activities like accounting. But now I want to break it out and see just what it can do.
And that above all is the coolest thing about the site hands down. It really drives home the lesson that art is never about what tools you have but how you use those tools.
So go check it out and I bet you will get the same inspiration from it I did.
