A note to Google users on internet freedom

The Internet as we know it is facing a serious threat. There's a debate heating up in Washington, DC on something called "net neutrality" – and it's a debate that's so important Google is asking you to get involved. We're asking you to take action to protect Internet freedom.

Stem Cells

~tehste:icontehste: reports, July 13
Friedreich's Ataxia is one of the most common forms of inherited ataxia. Ataxia litterally means "absence of order". Ataxia is the main symptom of a group of neurological disorders called the cerebellar ataxias. Parts of the nervous system that control co-ordination and balance deteriorate. I have FA and I am trying to raise enough money to have some stem cell treatment...

This is a cry for help; please read!

=enchanted-black-rose:iconenchanted-black-rose: reports, January 26
I would greatly appreciate if you fave this. :)

As some of you may know, I've suffered some serious health problems since I was 11. I've had many, many tests performed on me, and nothing was found, except that I have some awful allergies. Upon entering high school, we looked into my mental health and found I suffer from anxiety, depression and insomnia. But on top of all of this, I have a weak immune system; I get sick about every two to three weeks, and the sickness lasts anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

This posed a problem when it came to my attendance. I've always been absent quite a bit more than I should be, but the school has usually been very lenient with it. Until now. They finally decided, halfway through my senior year, that they are no longer going to tolerate me being absent.

Every time I get sick, they're saying I must go to the doctor and have him send a note, otherwise the absences will go unexcused and I won't be able to make-up my schoolwork.

But my Dad just recently switched jobs and they screwed him over when it came to Health Care. Our family [there are five of us] are allowed five visits to the doctor a year. That's five visits all together, not individually. And after we go over that five visit limit, it's going to be very expensive.

We're a one-income home; we can't afford to be doing that. So...today I dropped out of high school. I'm looking into earning my diploma at either Brigham Young University or the University of Missouri. That way, my being sick isn't an issue; I have nowhere that I have to be. I get to do it at my own pace from my house...I can do it in bed, if I want to.

& this is where you come in; I need 5.5 credits to graduate, and the classes are $160 for a .5 credit class. I'll need to take 11 classes. This brings the total to $1760. Now, obviously, me being a 17 year old teenager with no job, I can't afford this. And my parents can't just afford to shell out that much money; they have two other children, and themselves, that they have to care for, too.

So, here I am...getting down on my knees and begging, as graciously as possible, for any help that any of you can provide. I opened up a PayPal account, so that I can accept donations through there, and if any of you wanted to help, you wouldn't have to write me out a check.

I've never used PayPal before...so I don't know exactly what you need to send me donations...but the e-mail address through it is fjsimons@sbcglobal.net

I hate asking for donations. I have no problem asking for subs or prints, because that's different. It's not something I need, and I'm not expecting anything. It's usually me just joking around.

But seriously...I would love to be able to walk up to my Mother, who I love more than life, and say "Mom...you don't have to worry about the money. I got it." She would cry, I know she would.

Even if you can't donate anything, if you link to this in your journal, that would be great. If it wasn't so, so, SO important to me, I wouldn't be asking.

And, you know...one of the saddest parts of this is that I'm not stupid. I'm far from it, really. I think that's what disappoints my Mom the most; she knew the places I could go. My principal told her that if I had attended school more and tried harder [I kinda gave up towards the end] I could have earned a full college scholarship.

If you donate anything, please note me so I can link to you in my journal and thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thanks for sticking with me and reading through this. I love you all.

At the time this article was created, the amount raised was...

Great news--you can get a GED for less than $100, which most colleges will accept. Seeing as you're a senior, you should have already taken your SATs or ACTs and so you're set! No need to ask for money.

honey, go get your GED, seriously, almost everywhere accepts that as a diploma these days, and it'll be a lot cheaper for you, and much less time consuming for you. if you study up and what not, you have a good chance ;)

good luck!

I hate to jump on the GED bandwagon, but to be honest, it was the best choice I've ever made. Do not let anyone ever tell you that you've ruined your life just because you didn't graduate traditionally. You can still go and do whatever the hell you want, really. As long as you don't want to be an astronaut, you should be fine.
I've never heard of a community college that won't accept a GED graduate. I've never heard about being denied an entry level job because of a GED. If you want to go to a university, go to a community college first, and then transfer, or go after you complete your certificate or associates. Besides, most community colleges will have what you are looking to study.
By all means, do what feels right for you. But don't let anyone try to push you back.

There is no shame in a GED, all companies care about is if you have a college degree, not how you graduated high school. Any community college will let you in with a GED as well, even the military will take a GED.

All that being said, I don't believe this is a news item, more of a journal entry. Now if a fellow deviant wanted to post this as a news story, in the correct form, then it would be 'news'. Right now it is a plea for help, nothing to be ashamed of, just not news if you post it yourself.

good luck
