UPDATES FROM $realitysquared : When Blocking Seems to Fail

A few weeks ago I spoke about what sort of issues are typically accepted as recognized cases of harassment and what sort of issues are usually deemed not serious enough for administrative action. This week I would like to talk about situations involving harassment, arguments and the blocking system.

The Blocking system was designed and introduced to give deviants the ability to block other deviants from interacting on their journals, account page or deviations and it is intended to be the first tool which you use when you and someone else don’t seem to get along.

For all of you who feel it necessary to Block someone please bear in mind that you are only blocking interaction in your own personal areas and along with blocking the deviant you must also remember to stop replying to their comments, otherwise you will be providing the person you have blocked with the ability to reply to you. For example; if you continue to reply to a comment on your account page left by someone you have blocked, that deviant will be able to reply to your reply, and if you reply again you allow them to get in yet another comment until one of you decides to stop talking. Remember to let the Block do its job and cease talking to the deviant you’ve blocked; if you consistently continue to participate in a conversation with them then you are essentially inviting further responses and weakening any argument that you are being harassed.

On the other side of the coin, if you are blocked please recognize it as a requirement to stop attempting to contact the deviant who has blocked you. Do not switch accounts in order to continue arguing or insulting or annoying the deviant who has blocked you. Do not seek out old comments on unblocked pages in order to threaten or pester or continue the situation which caused you to be blocked in the first place.

When you deliberately try to work around being blocked in order to continue contacting a deviant who has blocked you then you risk having your behavior classified as harassment and you place yourself at risk for a suspension or even a ban. Don’t allow some minor argument or disagreement to result in the loss of your account simply because you couldn’t let it go once you were blocked.

The hardest part is getting people to 'stop replying'... too many people want to get in the last word...

Great article. :)

Good information on replying to problem deviants who you blocked. Most people find it hard to just leave it be and move on, but that's really the best thing to do. Same with trolls, if you go to their page and post something about how trollish they are being, that does nothing but fuel their motivation to keep trolling.

my harasser lost his account and made loads of new one's to carry on harassing me, now the swines gotten clever and keeps one main account while making new one's to harass me without losing the one he actually works from. >.< I wish there was a way of getting rid of the swine all together...not murder, just something like never letting him make a new account on dART.

either way i wish i had known of that block tool from the beginning, it saved me a lot of hassle and in the end managed to keep the idiot away from my page and my work.

As stated, the hardest part is getting people to realize that you don't need to get in the last word to 'win', your only giving them incentive to continue.

Can I ask if blocked people are still able to favourite your work? This was the case a few months ago when there seemed to be a spate of particularly rude/crude/harrassing stock "collectors" that a lot of the providers blocked en mass, yet they were still able to add our deviations to their faves which was odd and rather annoying...

USED MY STOCK? PLEASE SEE MY JOURNAL HERE [link] AND SEND ME LARGE VERSIONS FOR MY ARCHIVES PLZ!!!

Please don't speak... it would spoil the illusion I have that makes you intelligent... -.-

Yea you have to be strong willed when you see them talking about you in other places besides your page and not reply. It is best not to fuel their attention seeking tactics.

Thanks for that info :)
