The television is a household communication device created in the 1930s which replaced the radio as the standard source of entertainment and news. This device has taken on many different forms and functions over that time; however the agenda of the media industry it spawned has changed little. Television is devoted to the distribution of information in an age where content has little purpose of other than a profit. News broadcasts have become entertainment for the masses and plot-less television has become all the rage.
It is unlikely that the underlining purpose of television will ever change. There is a lot of crap out there, however there is also programming worth sifting through all the mindless monotony. It is important to acknowledge the creative talents behind one of the largest staples in popular culture. The importance of that group has never been more evident than in light of recent events. The writers have left the entertainment industry in a standstill as they fight for their right to a livelihood.
As fellow creators, we should recognize the difficulties they endure. Creative rights are tenuous, especially in an age where information can be distributed through so many avenues.
In an effort to support not only writers, but all creators, I've hunted down collection of photographs that display television in light of both its positive and negative aspects. Follow the thumbs and check out these amazing artists.
Now it's time for August 2008 Visual Art Features, many new art to discover!
Don't forget that many artists need to be viewed, they deserve it! Fave Fave Fave! My main purpose in doing a monthly feature about (to my point of view) 'the best visual art' is to put in the same level as well wellknown artists and popular creations as unknown artists and under-exposed creations. Artists need to be supported. So don't be shy!
Here's the Menu per Category :
