In 1996, Eve Ensler began performing her Vagina Monologues. In 1998, she founded V-DAY, a non-profit that raises funds and awareness to prevent violence against women and girls. Ten years later, the show is an international success and women worldwide step on stage to give voice to the stories of women--and our vaginas. (Go on, say it. Read it in full. Say it out loud. VAGINA.)
This year I'm both coordinating and acting in The New School's productions. We are excited to reach and surpass the amount we raised last year, through tickets, chocolate vagina lollipops, and raffles.
But we need something to raffle!
I'm putting out a call to the deviantART community, seeking donations of artwork we can raffle at our shows.
What we're looking for:
- Any form of art, service, etc., is potentially elligible. This includes images, writing, jewelry, textiles, photo sessions, custom pieces, etc. If you have an idea, we would rather hear it than not! Please keep in mind that we are located in New York City as far as rendering services.
- Depictions of womens' bodies are acceptable, but should not be lewd or pornographic.
- All art must be content-applicable. Women, violence, vaginas, theater, empowerment, feminism, sex-positive, life, birth, renewal, etc.
The key to this is
donations. Our production's resources are limited, as we want as much money to go toward the charity as possible. We would be most grateful for outright donations--prints of artwork, etc. Services like Kinkos can be placed online, and we can pick the prints up from a specified local store. A good printed representation of anything that cannot be physically present at the shows in time (such as jewelry that must be shipped, or made to order later) will be incredibly helpful. If that's not possible, we'd still like to hear from you and work together to meet halfway.
The deadline to initiate contact is FEBRUARY 10th!About this 'Contest'
This is labeled as a contest, though it does not strictly fit the definition of a contest. There is no '

rize.' What you will receive is recognition by a New York university's audience. That and, you know, karma.
Your donation will go to very worthy causes:
- The V-DAY organization as a whole is donating money to female victims of Hurricane Katrina.
- The New School's production is donating locally to: Right Rides, an organization that provides FREE rides after dark to women and queer-identified people throughout the NYC area. These people might face danger were they to walk or take the subway alone through certain areas. We feel that this is an excellent service, one that helps people throughout the city as well as our school's student population.
- Our second local charity is: Voices of Women. This group helps women who have been victims of rape, domestic abuse, etc., to voice their concerns and create change in the system. They teach leadership and speaking skills to their members.
TO SUBMIT:
If you are interested, please send me a note with a description of what you would like to offer, links to the piece(s) or similar work, and how you propose to make the transfer from you to us.
You need to initiate contact (ie, note me!) by Feb 10th! This is crucial, as our Monologues will be on Feb 14th and 15th.

Do, please, ask questions!! I will do my best to answer them all.
Thanks you to everyone who has helped to make their own V-DAYs a success. We stand on the shoulders of giantesses.

Devious Comments
Google Books has selections from the Monologues available online, free to read: [link]
We need to have something physical to give to people, so you can either send us a print yourself by mail, bring it over if you're local (NYC area), or we can use the magic of the internet. It's possible to upload your file to Kinkos, and ask it to be printed at a store here in NYC and we can pick it up. The costs for these are part of your donation.
Our shows are February 14th and 15th.

A huge amount of my family and extended family have suffered abuse, and this is definitely something that I would love to do something to support. If I can't this year, will you be doing the same next year, or is this a special, 10-year anniversary situation?
