A Feminist Perspective on Questionable Images

*sick-snowangel:iconsick-snowangel: reports, July 1
Sex and sexuality in art are some of my favorite things, and certainly sometimes arousal is part of this, but more importantly, it is FAR MORE than about simple arousal, as porn is. One of my deviantart friends, :iconcypherthepanicartist: , said that art of a sexual nature can “ provoke thoughts about our dreams, fears, desires, and place in the world"...yes! Well done art that deals with sex exposes the soul of the subject or act in question, not just the naughty bits. I feel that any kind of work on this site that looks at sexuality in a thoughtful or artistic or critical or celebratory, etc. way is certainly appropriate content for an art site, because, of course, this work is actually ART.

AnnaKirsten's Terrific Tuesday - Expression in Art

=AnnaKirsten:iconAnnaKirsten: reports, February 5, 2008

The Art of Expression

I have been going through my gallery of favourite images, and have been very struck by how many ways in which expression is portrayed, both in people and in animals. Expression is to be found, not only in their faces, but often also in the body language, which can sometimes say even more than the face does! In fact sometimes its even contradictory.

For this week's bonanza then, I've picked out some of the most expressive images I have stored, and thought I would share them with you all.

Warning.. My interpretation of an expression, which is the way in which an image of a person or animal strikes me on first sight, may conflict sometimes with what the artist intended. I mean no offence by this, but simply to add interest to the way an individual (especially an odd-ball like myself) sometimes perceives things. I may well use more than one or several images created by a single artist too, but that simply goes to reveal such an artist's diversity!

HAUGHTINESS Speak to me if you dare!

DARKLY PENSIVE Thinking dark thoughts

BLATANTLY PUTTING IT ON! Like they do!

CONTEMPLATIVE Scheming; working things out..

WISTFULNESS Wishing things were different

REMEMBERING Thoughts from the past brought into the present

FEARFUL Can be a personality trait; maybe just afraid

TREPIDATION How do I relate to you?

SORROWFUL Sad, remorseful, unhappy

DEVASTATED Shocked and horrified

ETHEREAL/SPIRITUAL Other-worldly, surreal

SHEER CUTENESS

YOU DID WHAT??

HILARITY

NONCHALANCE desirous of non-disclosure

SECRETIVE Something to hide perhaps

ADORATION/LONGING

JUST DREAMING

MAJESTIC

THE HUNTER & THE HUNTED Look at their body-language!

TO THE RESCUE

OPENNESS/TRANSPARENCY

TAKEN BY SURPRISE
