Welcome to another year of Apoholics Anonymous! A few changes are being made, we hope you'll like the updated format. In addition to choosing our favorite fractals, each Apophysis admin will be choosing one piece to give a little "why I like this one" blurb. Also, we'll be putting department announcements and updates in whenever we have something to say about a particular club department. The WTC winners will all be included as usual. Because the new AA will be a bit more packed with info and pieces, we'll only be doing it once a month. We hope you'll enjoy!

"Happy New Year by ~
love1008 is a great example of what the new 3D hack of Apophysis can do. It's creative, different, and is one of those fractals that really engages the imagination. When I look at this fractal, I am looking up at Times Square in the future, with massive skyscrapers towering above me, and festivities all around as we welcome in the new year."

"I have an important note for all Apophysis fans who are on a Mac: =
Hebejebelus has answered your pleas and Apophysis is now available for Leopard:

Also, stay tuned for a write-up about some additional gallery activities in the future.

Nightwing by pumakitten is an example of how creativity can explode from ones self when given the opportunity. This combination of fractals and photoshop really shows fractal art is TRULY ART!

Now for your membership updates. Have you been an active member lately either by posting fractals into your gallery or submitting images to the apophysis gallery to show off to the world wide? If not I will be noting you to see if you are still interested in being a member of the Apophysis group. As you may not know we currently are 1530 members strong. Have you been out recruiting others to join the group, have you seen some Apophysis fractal artists that are really awesome and would benefit the group to have them as a member? Have you seen some new Apophysis fractal artists that could benefit from the sharpening of their skills thru the interaction of the Apophysis group? Drop them a note and send them our way, the Apophysis group is here to help any and all individuals.

Frustration by ~
EyesOfAcheronI'm not a big fan of tiling at all, but this left me totally astounded. The attention to detail here is incredible and so is the sense of depth. The blue lines in the middle overlap each other a little bit, but it isn't that much of a distraction. I encourage all of you to check this flame out. I think you'll be amazed.

Volte-Face by ~
2BORN02BMany times I like movement or sweeping forms in an image. But here's a statuesque, very still and solid image that works just as well! It's like a bird's eye view of a tomb or a library, marble and stone. I adore the layout; it's orderly without being mundane. The subdued colors and pools of light are beautiful, and it's all topped off with a marbled texture seldom pulled off in Apophysis. Kudos!

Hey, It's `
DragonWinter, your friendly neighborhood Resource Journal admin. Just letting you know that this community is submitting some really great tutorials, gradpacks and flamepacks and I'm proud of you guys! If you've made any Apophysis resources that you want to share with the club, note me with links at *
Apophysis and include the word resource in your subject. I'll be happy to put them up! Also, if you remove something you've submitted from your gallery or plan on leaving dA or the club, please note me so I can remove it from the journal and keep broken links to a minimum. Thanks for all you guys share to keep the community strong!

Freezing Over, by ~ibon16, has lots of good things going for it. The colour scheme is perfect, while the textures and shapes lend themselves in a very positive way to the whole chilly feel of the fractal. The darker grays of the fractal look just like a river, frozen motion. While the fractal pulls itself into its center very dynamically, having the focal point so centered takes away some depth that would be created if the focal point were not directly in the center. Just as a personal preference, I would rather most fractals be vertical over horizontal, as I a) dislike scrolling side-to-side, and b) our eyes are more used to going up-and-down, so having vertical dimensions not only helps the fractal feel natural, but it draws our eyes to the darker, grayer parts that are somewhat lost in the centred, horizontal position. Overall, however, this is a very good fractal worthy of quite the extended glance!"

Good Sense or Reason by ~
ExpercfBecause every single line is perfect. Because only 17 views is too few for such a fractal. More importantly, because the best fractals don't always look like the rest.
