SWEENEY TOOD & TIM BURTONīS INTERVIEW

~BRESSEND:iconBRESSEND: reports, February 7
///:butterflytwo:////:butterflytwo: /////////SWEENEY TODD//////////:butterflytwo: ///:butterflytwo:///

Of the love to hatred in only one song

When we thought about Tim Burton our mind it almost instantaneously associates ghosts, knives and Machiavellian own geniuses of the light and the dark that is, and by all means in this occasion we do not go very desencaminados, Burton is released in the adaptation of musical comedies to the purest style of Bob Fosse, trepidantes rates that are interlaced inseparablely of the plot of the film while this is divided in several histories that follow one another of simultaneous way; and that that us rare not to be the sounds acute of Elfman adorning the score, but is that Burton decided to go to the origins and to work with Stephen Sondheim, creator of the musical comedy; although the roots of the own Sweeney reside in one of those dark London legend that they affirm to be cradles in real facts; the story (probably written by Thomas Prest who being inspired by articles of the crime of The Times satisfied the bloody imagination with the people of on foot) speech of Sweeney Todd a barber which it looks for revenge and making use its talent and knives happens to knife to all that that boasts, the touch of sinister humor puts Mrs. Lovett, whom obsessive and devotee it suggests to do dimmed with corpses. All the film is decorated as pie of human meat with a magnificent ambientación as much in photography as in clothes and a great interpretation of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham the worthy Carter of Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury on the scenes of Broadway, like end one more a curiosity, Sam Mendes was in charge of the project from 2003, although later it decided to film Jarhead, which finally was released in 2005, leaving him the field free to Burton.

///:butterflytwo:////:butterflytwo: ///////// 15 QUESTIONS TO TIM BURTON//////////:butterflytwo: ///:butterflytwo:///

Madrid, 21 of January of 2008, I handle my happens of press and I return it to watch, will be truth that comes? For the cinema patrio I do not know, but for international Spain it begins to appear in the guides of promotion of the films; and this brings by these sites people of the stature of Tim Burton. Everything began in 1976; a 18 years boy is granted a scholarship by Disney to be released like entertainer in Tod and Toby movie, but strangely it did not want to have nothing to do with foxes nor musk deers, after all as it said to Disney its designs of the personages were, “like animals died in the highway”, after convincing of its talent the factory decides to give him to 60,000 dollars for its project Vincent. Later or at the time of the 90´s Edward scissorhands would come to the light and Nigthmare before Cristmas, the rest… or is history, which much people does not know is that that chaval is that Its first work went when collaborating in the first adaptation to the world of the celluloid of the literary work, the Gentleman of the Ring, who or could not officially direct Nightmare before Christmas by a union agreement, or that usually s personalize the logo of the producer in each one of its films. Before you Timothy William Burton

QUESTION: As it were the running?

ANSWER: To have music was something very novel and that really contributed much because I could see as the actors moved and reacted before the music, made things that never had seen them do, was something very special

Q: What about Jonny Deep?

A: I have worked with in six occasions and is as if every time had worked with six different people, is always somebody novel one, enchants to me to work with him, in my opinion, is an author of personage, of roll, seemed to which they can be the old personages of the terror films, it was an ideal paper, we could see him sing, that he is something new, I believe that it adds a step more in its interpretation

Q: Has helped to your experience in animation with Sweeney Todd You?

A: I believe that in the end (of the animation) to extended much obvious in the film, when one makes animation, you must do it everything, you must film, that to draw, to design, to write, and that gives to a complete experience in the film, something you that did before in animation which I have let do is the Story Board, since when working with actors I like plus the performance.

Q: You said in an occasion that your films were for “adults, children and dogs” Is Sweeney Tood for children?

A: My films are specially for dogs and some that another cat (laughter); I when he was young it saw films of horror in the television… I believe that Sweeney Todd or Sleepy Hollow is for children… young strangers that yes (laughter)

Q: In Sweeney Todd there is much blood…

A: Yes, first time that I saw the work was in format “great guiñol” and included much blood, was important that that blood was present, since is a film that has the impresionist and nonrealistic intention to be, to obtain that emotional vibration that we see, those aspects always were fundamental in the original work and at no moment we spoke to so change or to clear that, but to leave it and as it was.

Q: Has Stephen Sondheim approved the actors?

A: It had last word on whom would be protagonists, if the actors were the adapted ones or no, but accepted to Jonny even before to hear to sing him, that are peculiar, but rest of actors yes that they had to do casting to see if they gave or she does not carve it, at least level of song, but not she left single, because he realized of which this was a film, was not a erandos play and therefore he knew that world totally different, being open from the changes that we introduced, who in fact we put enough, its attitude always was positive and to seat what we and we said.

Q: At the outset the stage scene was going to be digital… What made change you of opinion?

A: Yes, the original idea was that, to do it everything of digital form, mainly considering the budget, that was quite modest, but to the power to have a great designer like Dante Ferretti, we thought that it was worth the trouble, coverall considering that the actors who were not singing professionals could feel more comfortable if they were already acclimated, if they were in the middle of that reality would be easier to be able to sing better, in fact, thus was, nevertheless if there am to admit that there is some digital sequence, I do not know if you know the screen green that is used for this technique, but is really a very disagreeable color and he did not desire to us to have to all actors in that atmosphere.

Q: How takes the fame?

A: I have had some messes by her, attempt not to become an object that people can use, attempt to maintain to me same me, and being faithful the one who I am, for that reason nonalive in Los Angeles, I occurred whatever that stops to be able to maintain that individuality own could not this there.

Q: Sweeney Tood revenge speech, but to that we are scared To the death or the pain?

A: This it is the reason by which I like the films of fantasy, touch all those subjects, the pain, the death, humor, the dark, the luminous thing and the life is not more than a mixture of all that.

Q: To what extent was important the sound track?

A: The fact to have music at any moment, in the scenery, the running, affected everything, until in as Jonny took the knife or as the acores in each room walked,… and that language tapeworm a very important weight, we did not have to speak about the personages because their own words and songs already established as they had to be.

Q: What has of the autobiographical element in your films?

A: Something has… (laughter) something generally of my past, yes, I have become Todd, is something that scares, I believe that the only difference between Todd and I is that he can sing (laughter)

Q: Jugaba of small with other children? R: No, and I do not know because… (laughter) nobody wanted to play with me, sad, but the other children, I believe that I took revenge myself of them making films Ves as I am like Todd? (laughter)

Q: Let us speak of projects…

A: I do not know it… (laughter) really I have had many projects that did not get to be made, for example first Frankenweenie was with actors of meat and bone, and now I value possibility to do animated it, because they are illustrations that have a special meaning for me, is something that I would like to do.

Q - SPOILER: How went the scene to throw to Helena to the fire? (Boham-Carter was pregnant of the own Burton)

A: The truth is that it had many desire of which it bequeathed (laughter), but to half of running we found out that she was pregnant and then we could not send it with all the force and energy that we had liked (laughter), I said to him to the beginning which we would take two weeks in making that scene, but single we did it once.

NEW DONE BY: DESIREE BRESSEND :iconbressend:

///:butterflytwo:////:butterflytwo: /////////SWEENEY TODD//////////:butterflytwo: ///:butterflytwo:///

///:butterflytwo:////:butterflytwo: ///////// 15 PREGUNTAS A TIM BURTON//////////:butterflytwo: ///:butterflytwo:///

R: No, y no sé porqué…
