So, I have a hard but not so hard choice. My long time friend popped online a couple nights ago and asked me if I was still doing photography, then he asked if I might be able to do some photos for him and his girlfriend. I said sure and he told me what it was for, he sent me all the info and I said I'd look over it and let him know for sure what I could do. Now I'm not sure how many of you are aware of the current issues happening with Suicide Girls and some of their former models and photographers. Mainly, Lithium Picnic and Apnea. During my conversation with my friend I kept trying to remember what it was about SG that didn't seem right, it wasn't til I started reading over the contract for simply submitting a set. Let alone what the model signs should she be accepted and creepy jesus forbid they offer me a job or see me doing similar photos for someone else even if I was freelance. Now, it didn't take me long to decide that I couldn't do the photos simply on a moral standpoint of SG getting super greedy and vindictive but also the fact that they would essentially own my friends girlfriend if they accepted the set. But the fact that it means I'm giving up a job simply hits me hard, it's not an area of photography that I would want to do often but I still respect it and think that amazing work can be done. The fact that a website that for such a long time was so well regarded has come to the point of forcing me to turn down a job based on their current actions and their complete lack of respect for the community they are trying to connect with. But I'm the type of person who will support fellow photographers when it comes to something like this, it would basically be like telling them that they don't need to worry because they can find someone new without sacrificing anything.

Now, I'm trying to find out if there are any other sites similar to SG that can be vouched for and we would still be able to work with. I know that SG must have someone sitting at a computer looking for any site that barely fits the same descriptions because I've heard they're going after anyone they feel threatens the oh so unique nature of their site. But there has to be someone out there that they can't sick the lawyers on. If anyone has any advice or knows of anything let me know. I just don't want to shoot myself in the foot by passing up a job but at the same time I'm just as likely to get screwed by SG.
