Introduction :handshake:

Welcome to the weekly Help Desk Updates. In these weekly updates we will attempt to bring you the most up to date news concerning the Help Desk & FAQ, as well as provide some helpful hints for super duper deviantART fun.

Hexe's Corner :hexentanz:

Once upon a time there lived a little magical frog named :hexentanz:, she had a craving for bugs :bug: like no other frogs before her. Everyday she collected them and kept them neat and tidy in little jars. On her daily rounds she would meet a lot of people as she went through the forest, while some of these people were nice, some of them were mean to the little :frog: and couldn't understand her desire to collect so much.

Little :hexentanz: was very saddened by this and could not understand why people would be so mean, I mean she was after all trying to kill the annoying little pests that bothered these people oh so very much.

One day on her way through the forest a person barked at her from a distance "Little :hexentanz: why do you like to collect so much and why must you do it everyday? Can't you just kill the pests in one go?" Little :hexentanz: cried back "Dear Sir I may be a magical little Frog, but I cannot kill all these pests in one go, I must collect as many as possible to study their behavior so I can better trap them later on!" The person laughed at her and walked off and little :hexentanz: was so saddened she could no longer collect for that day. She went home and cried and could not understand why he was so mean to her when she was only trying to help him and others. -The End-

The moral of this story for those wondering is that as much as bugs annoy us as well on the site, we sometimes need to collect more information from you. As much as we would love to just 'fix it now', this sometimes cannot always be, so please do not get angry with us if we need to request more information from you.

FAQ News:

As mentioned last week the FAQ will soon receive its yearly spring cleaning. In order to prepare for this cleaning I will be moving around some categories until this Monday. So come Tuesday you may want to have a look around to see what has changed category wise.

Collections FAQ:

Collections is alive and booming, now we need to put the BOOM in the FAQ. If you are a user of collections or have come across some frequently asked questions on collections, please drop a line below in the comments section for what you would like to see added to the FAQ in regards to this beautiful feature!

I would like to remind everyone that it is very important make sure your JavaScript is always up to date and enabled. Many important features of deviantART require you to have JavaScript in order to use them. So what is JavaScript and why do you need it?

JavaScript is a scripting language commonly used to build web pages. Programmers use JavaScript to make web pages more interactive; for example, to display forms (Such as Easy Reply) and buttons (the Customize and Category buttons, you see around deviantART) and to make processes, such as our submission process run more fluidly. Disabling JavaScript or having an out of date version may cause some sites not to run properly in your browser, including deviantART.

Many of the major features you use on deviantART require JavaScript in order to function. These features include browsing (category system and wayback), shop check out system, dAmn, favourite and submission process for news, deviation submission and editing process, online friends list, easy reply comment system, the select all feature for the message center, and the new gallery folders and favourite/collections features. Some features such as the galleries actually give you an error to let you know your JavaScript is not working.

"Your web browser must understand JavaScript to use this gallery.
Help

Or, you can visit the old version of this gallery. "

If you notice any of these features going haywire, the best thing to do is make sure your JavaScript is enabled and up to date. If you test all of these features and none of them seem to be functioning properly this is a sure sign that something has gone disarray with your JavaScript.

What do I do if I forgot my password but didn't update the email address you have on file? Or if it's no longer valid?

Never fear, deviant! If this happens please contact us at help@deviantart.com. Do not create a new account to get in touch with us at the Help Desk Please use the email only as we do not and cannot delete deviantART accounts.

It's important to keep your email address updated on your dA account because it's where all the important emails will be sent; like lost password retrievals, verify emails, subscription related emails and special site announcements (should you choose to accept those). To change the email address associated with your account go to your Settings. Under the "general" tab in the section titled "Personal Information" will be the "Email" field. In this field you can enter the email address you wish to have associated with your account.

If you've forgotten your password you'll need to have it emailed to you. The "Lost Password" link is located at the top right hand corner of every page, under the deviantART header. Our password retrieval system doesn't send you a new password, it'll send you a confirmation key which is used on the verification page linked in the same email. When used there you'll be given the chance to change your password to something of your choice.

In closing, as always if you're having trouble and it isn't covered in the FAQ write to us at the Help Desk and we'll get it taken care of as soon as possible. :)

yay story time in hex's corner ^w^' that sounds like it should be a tv show.
as for Collections FAQ, is +fav now a default collection folder? wondering because the +fav counter on deviations was changed to 'fav's and collection' i dunno if that'd be useful in an FAQ but id relly like to know ^^;

For those wanting to check their JavaScript settings :

Firefox - from the Tools Menu, select Options, then click on Content - there is a tick-box there marked 'Enable JavaScript'. (If you want to have more control over JavaScript on website, you can install the NoScript addon, which will allow to either temporary or permanently allow JavaScript to run on those sites that you trust :paranoid:)

Internet Explorer - from the Tools menu, select Internet Options, then click on the Security tab. By default, the Internet zone, which covers most websites you'll visit (including dA) will be set to Medium-High security - however, you can change and/or customise the settings by clicking on the Custom Level button - JavaScript setting are found under Scripting. (Warning: if you're in a work environment, access to these settings may have been locked down by your IT department, in which case you're out of luck )

Safari - From the Edit menu, click on Preferences, then click on the Security tab - there is a tick-box there marked 'Enable JavaScript'

Hope this helps a few people... :)
