"That library, to my way of thinking, was an abortion the day it was dedicated," Fulton County Commissioner Tom Lowe said. "I am a lover of art. I can even stand abstract art. But God darn, who in the world would build something like that? There ain't no damn artistic value to that library."
-- Fulton County Commissioner Tom Lowe, as quoted by Kevin Duffy's in his article in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution,
By the book: Buckhead library may be razed.
Essentially, a library that has garnered numerous accolades -- an incredibly beautiful building that looks today as fresh as they day it was built, is probably going to be razed to the ground for a parking terrace. This is being done in the name of incorporating public buildings "into a more urban-style project."
What is more "urban-style" than
this building? According to duffy, developer Ben Carter proposes demolishing the building, which sits in the middle of his $1.5 billion, eight-block redevelopment, and relocating the library to a future mixed-use building with condominiums and retail.
"Under his plan, the new library would occupy two floors above a parking garage. Patrons would gain entry via an elevator. An outdoor reading terrace is possible."
A reading terrace, you say? How generous.

"This is an opportunity for the county to receive some money to profit," commission Chairman John Eaves told the library system's board of trustees, of which he is a member. "But it's also an opportunity for the library to be brand new and relocated to the same immediate area."
In closing, from Duffy's article:
"Trustee Roger Rupnow asked Carter if it would be possible to move the library building. Carter said no.
'If you want to take that gorgeous thing and move it somewhere, that'd be great,' he joked."

"I am very careful to be shallow and conventional where depth and originality are wasted." -- L.M. Montgomery
Anyone who deliberately speaks like that should have no artistic credibility whatsoever. Just saying.
My personal favorites: 'I can even stand abstract art.', 'ain't no damn artistic value', and, in my opinion, the crowd favorite 'God darn'.
I poke fun as always. Hopefully this can be stopped.
