With Valentines Day fast approaching, its good to sit down and contemplate love and how you live it. Valentines Day is on the 14th of February, and focuses on couples and lovers mainly. Little children often bring candy for their classmates on this day, and others take it as an opportunity to draw closer to the one they love.
But what truly is love? This strange emotion is generally undefined, just as the meaning of life. Many consider love to be a passion for something or someone. Some say they love a food or video game, and some say that they love a person. Both terms are used often, and it all depends on what you are referring to. Either way, love is a common emotion, especially among teenagers. Love can be a strong word and emotion, however. Most people begin with a crush, or a small feeling for another, usually of the opposite gender. Some take this crush a step farther, and ask the person out. The phrase, when taken literally, means to go somewhere such as dinner or the mall. In todays world, its basically saying that you have a crush on them and asking them if you would like to be their partner. If all goes well, they are now a couple with you.
Couples, as I said, are the main focus of Valentines Day, where couples tend to be closer together emotionally. They may buy one another gifts of candy or objects, or go out on a date. No matter your preference, most couples do something along those lines. From this information, Valentines Day seems very cheery. However, what about those who dont have someone to spend it with? Well, chances are that if you dont have a crush, you arent likely to care too much about this day. For those who do have a crush, however, this can be a depressing day, staring on with longing in your eyes towards the one you love. My advice to you is not to hold back. You may not be going out, but would it be so wrong to drop them a gift of some sort? You dont actually have to let them know it was you; the classic dropping the present off in their locker method works great too. Simply find a good time, open their locker, and throw it in. For those going the less-secretive route, publicly giving them the gift can work, but its best to meditate on how they will react to it. Will they get very shy and run away, or will they accept it and show their gratitude? This all depends on the person. Study their habits and choose what you think will work best.
For those dating online, you may take this holiday to think about how youre staying together. It can be hard, and you may decide that its best to go your separate ways. Theres nothing in the world thats comparable to holding the one you love in your arms. Online dating can take that important joy of life away from you. In todays world, its not quite safe either. Predators are everywhere, and you may be playing right into their hand. I cannot affect your relationships, but its good to take this into account this Valentines Day.
As a last note, its incredibly important to keep safe on Valentines Day. Dont do anything you may regret later in your life. As a guideline, always imagine yourself being filmed, and what others say if they saw the tape. This can be a helpful way to keep you on the right path.
Valentines Day is not a day for depression, regretting that you broke up with someone, or wishing things were better. Its a day to cheer up, try and mend relationships, and making things better. After this brief analysis, I hope you take deeper thought into Valentines Day, and look at it differently. Please understand that these are my thoughts, and not necessarily true. Anyone is entitled to their own opinion, and should take that offer.
To all of you here on deviantART as well as anyone who is reading this, I wish you all a happy Valentines Day to you and your special someone.
