UPDATES FROM $realitysquared : Unacceptable Off Site Links

Several things have come to our attention of late concerning the types of websites and content which many of our users are beginning to link to from their journals, comments and forum threads.

While deviants are certainly welcome to provide links to other websites and content I must remind everyone that certain types of links are not allowed here due to the type of content that will be displayed or because the website contains code which could be considered malicious.

As we do not allow the posting of pornography, explicit content, and certain disgusting imagery, we also do not allow our users to publicly post a URL or otherwise link to websites containing this content. This means you cannot provide a link to content hosted on another website which we consider to be unacceptable for submission to the deviantART galleries. This prohibition applies to links placed anywhere on the site in any fashion. Those found linking to this sort of content risk having their account suspended or banned indefinitely depending on exactly how offensive the link appears to be.

In a related fashion, as we do not allow the submission of copyright infringing content here we do not allow you to post links to websites which host pirated software, movies or music. You also may not provide links to websites which provide Key generators, serial numbers, registration numbers or any other data which can be used to enable illegal access to software or other copyrighted properties.
This prohibition does not mean that you cannot link to a clip hosted on YouTube; it refers only to websites which enable the direct download of the infringing material or websites which encourage or promote actual pirating and “sharing” of copyrighted digital content and software.

Lastly we do not wish to see anyone linking to websites which contain coding which is designed to specifically crash or “hijack” a web browser. Deviants caught specifically providing links to websites which will crash a browser, which contain viruses or malicious code, or which seize control of a browser causing uncontrolled popups or any other annoying or troublesome involuntary behavior will place themselves at risk of having their account suspended or even banned depending on the severity of the situation. We are aware that some of you believe these sorts of links are “fun” to throw at unsuspecting deviants however they are annoying and it is time for you to find something better to do in order to amuse yourself.

Awww... I felt so tempted to post a link to the well-known website that is designed to crash Internet Explorer browsers. Those who are interested will Google it. =p

I guess it shouldn't surprise me that people would supply links to malicious content. But man, get a hobby.

I hope now you've posted this more ppl will know  I have to say, I'd forgotten posting of such links is not allowed even in journals, but I'm not the sort of person to post such links anyway :giggle:

Does that mean people under 18 aren't allowed to post links to photos of nude photos of themself?

:#1:

I see a lot of people linking in gallery comments with "Nice gallery" and a string of sex-shop links in their signature...Definitely a lesson in "don't click the links" :unimpressed:

Whilst I'm shocked that you even have to remind people of this, it doesn't surprise me, people do the stupidest things and ignore common sense rules left right and center :S

FAQ #565: You prohibit the submission of 'pornographic material'; what do you consider this to be?

Only fools are enslaved by time and space.
Let's put our 3D glasses on, hop in the TARDIS, and go to a magical island with time traveling bunnies on it; shall we?
