Born in the 50's, Pop art as Dada is an art movement that reacted to the artistic vanguard that existed since the end of the 19th century (movements working with an evolving abstraction such as cubism and impressionism). Pop Art in opposition made use of figurative forms to represent and incorporate pop culture into art, making links with the day to day life of people, using comic and mass production as tools. An example of this would be Warhol who used graphic techniques mostly intended for advertising.
Pop art embraces various techniques such as painting, assemblage, collage, serigraphy and various mixed media that different artists developed during the movement. In my opinion Pop art was one of the most successful artistic movements because it managed to mix itself with the media of its time, carrying its message and critic to the people who were making front to change in society that led to a modified life style in the western world.

Good stuff, this is. As a style it has always interested me, and I've had to study Warhol quite intensively in the past. There's some good similar work on this site, and you've chosen a fine selection.
I'm glad I've read this because I was never entirely sure of what exactly pop art could be labeled as.. I knew the obvious Warhol types, but I didn't know what else could be classified as pop-art. Thanks!
