Death Is NOT News

*wackycracka:iconwackycracka: reports, February 15, 2008
Feeling depressed and angry at the world and the widespread sickness that has overtaken the human race as a whole??

Me too.

So I did a little experiment. For one week I didn't watch the news or visit any website that contains news headlines or a news ticker or any mention of current events.

This was difficult for me as I always like to keep up on current events just to be in the know and have my facts straight for when I have to argue with idiots.

But after one week of not hearing about senseless deaths, government corruption/incompetence, babies getting their faces ripped off by wild dogs, celebrity breakups, school shootings, and Britney Spears' latest breakdown...I felt at peace and and almost stopped hating the world.

When the day came to end my experiment - I went to CNN.com and within seconds was bombarded with news of parents killing their baby in a microwave, a patient killing her therapist with a meat cleaver, hundreds more civilians blown up by suicide bombers in the middle east, and the BREAKING NEWS that Britney Spears is just as fucked up as she was yesterday so the media will continue to harass and exploit her in the hope that they drive her to suicide so they'll have something real meaty to report on for the next month.

So to all the news media let me extend a heartfelt "FUCK YOU"

To the rest of you, encourage you to try my experiment and boycott the news for at least one week. If you want to keep up on the presidential race, do what I do and ask someone. I guarantee 100% that you will feel better as a whole and maybe if the media organizations stop making money of sensationalism and human suffering - they'll have to change their ways.

That is all.

I don't see why people have rejected this - it's a true editorial, with a good poignant message.

well you can reject a news but at least explain why.
The rejection system should be only permitted with sending a message.

....you are amazing. XD
I kinda HAVE to keep in touch since i'm in college and we're studying current events in writing class and such, but I WILL try the experiment at some point.
The human race as a whole tends to piss me off as well. But I try to be positive and surround myself with positive things, like friends and art and video games. ^^ It's very therepuetic. (I KNOW I spelled that wrong so just kick me XP)
but that's me, the ultimate optamist.XD Oh well.
Well done. Very well done indeed.

Great experiment. I haven't watched the news in a long time. Just like you said, it's far too depressing and negative. And I am so tired of hearing about how crazy Britney Spears is. I've found a good way to get some of the more important news are shows that aren't deadly serious about everything. That way, I'm still in the loop, but they don't talk so much about the uber depressing stuff.

For celebrity news, I like The Soup. As far as the presidential race goes, I get all the information I need from The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. :D I don't do CNN, or those "debate" shows like Bill O'Reilly and Nancy Grace. I get so pissed hearing someone tell someone else that their opinion is wrong.

By the time you realize this sig doesn't say anything interesting, it will have been too late to stop reading it. Ha!
:iconkovitlac:
I enjoy keeping up with the news. Sure there are some bad things, but no one ever expected the world to be all sunshine, puppies and rainbows. Yet, there are many GOOD things in the news as well. Just tonight I read a story of a man who saved a baby's life after donating a section of his liver to him.

The good stuff is right there - you don't even have to dig.

:iconcybergranny:
Well as I've understood people reject because they don't agree or find that it's incorrect incomplete or bad written or it can be people who just do this for pissing.
But I think that instead of just rejecting it they should at least say why and give constructive critics.
