Artistic Nudes - A study by Fahd A. Paracha

=fahap:iconfahap: reports, 22h 17m ago
Depictions of nudity refers to nudity in all the artistic disciplines including vernacular and historical depictions. Nudity in art has generally conformed — with some variation — to social standards for public nudity; in cultures where nudity was accepted, nude figures in painting and sculpture were as well.

A better way to organize deviations?

*Orioto:iconOrioto: reports, May 7
The actual way of organizing content is somewhat not perfect, cause it links two things that should be independant : genre and tech of an image.

E – The Environmental Magazine

~tacomeme2007:icontacomeme2007: reports, 2d 9h ago
You'll read things in E that you won't find anywhere else...

Think about it...
EPA researchers estimate the air inside our homes and offices is two to five times more polluted than the outside air. Considering most of us spend more time indoors then out and breath some 30 pounds of air per day, that's a big cause for concern.

It's a fact...
Underwater "windmills" (or tidal turbines) are tapping the tidal flow of New York City's East River as part of an important first step in harnessing ocean tides to create pollution-free electricity in the United States. Tidal power plants are also now operating in France, Russia, and Canada.

Paradoxically...
The wine industry's switch to synthetic corks and screw caps has the Rainforest Alliance up in arms. The concern is that forests of cork trees will decline because tearing the cork off the trees' bark actually stimulates the growth of the forest.

New research shows...
That hundreds of chemicals affect women's health more adversely than men's. And many of these toxic chemicals are found in products women use every day. Autoimmune diseases, Alzheimer's disease, certain cancers and osteoporosis are all more prevalent in women than in men due to exposure to these widely used chemicals.

Reading E will help you...

* Maintain a healthy home and a planet-friendly car
* Go organic and avoid genetically modified foods
* Make wise, environmentally responsible investments
* Use personal care products free of harmful chemicals
* Live the green lifestyle and be a force for change

Tributes and Responses to the NIU Shooting

~artlmntl:iconartlmntl: reports, February 17
It's all over the news now, that on February 14, an otherwise well-liked 27-year-old man named Steven Kazmierczak walked onto the stage of an NIU lecture hall armed with four firearms including a 12-gauge shotgun. He opened fire on the students. The violence lasted a few minutes, but the killer ultimately ended five lives and wounded 16 other students before killing himself. Police recovered 48 brass shell casings and 6 shotgun shells.

DA is an international community, but some of us attend or are alumni of NIU. Others mourn the the lives lost to such a stupid, senseless, and shocking act of violence. As details emerge, it only gets worse. It seems the act was premeditated and carefully planned. It's only natural that DA members would post responses to the attack and tributes to the fallen. I decided to post some of them here.

How come there's such an uprise in school violence related to guns in the US? Are people angrier or is it because of a heavier focus by the national press?

I don't think we can attribute the rise in school violence to one or a couple reasons. There are a number of different things that can cause a person to go over the edge. Psychological, medical, social problems can all have a detrimental effect on one and cause them to do horrible things. Some people can hide it better than others, as we're seeing with the NIU tragedy. The gunman was described as being kind hearted, mellow, funny, and peaceful. I think it's a number of different things that we have to keep an open mind and open eyes about it!

True, but you're just telling me about general personal motives which have been there for quite a while already. =) It does not explain the uprise attention, and that's what I'd like to know more about.

But I do agree that these tragedies do somehow remind us that our world/society still has flawed factors which still need fixing, and which are worth paying attention to.

Just my observation, I think the uprise in attention is due to the media and what evokes emotion, thus what gives ratings and if one can get a killer story on it and appeal it to their viewers, then they can in a sense increase their own status within the communications/journalism world. Being part of the media, it really sux that we capitalize on other peoples' misfortunes!!!

Indeed, but I'm pretty sure that media outlets don't feel that kind of guilt, considering that they're not responsible for the incidents and therefore they feel like they're bringers of truth.

In reality though, the press is centralized by the government: I believe that in the US, all news come from the Associated Press, and they pretty much tell/dictate to local media channels what they should show (they once demonstrated their power by completely ignoring Paris Hilton related news for an entire week).
