`GeneratingHype on letters, editing and GDship

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, August 30
An interview with ex-GD, writer, editor, fascinating person: `GeneratingHype. Here are some tidbits from the interview (which I recommend reading in full):

"Letters presuppose a sort of authenticity, and I truly believe that a story—no matter the form—needs to be authentic and believable.

"Sometimes I wish I had stories such as "I wrote my first published poem at three and a half!" or "I started writing stories at two!", but writing never came easy for me and is still not very easy for me.

The Use of Adverbs in Fiction Writing

=DarcKnyt:iconDarcKnyt: reports, August 29
Adverbs are the endangered species of the adult fiction world. They're frowned on like putting a Baby Ruth bar in a punch bowl at a wedding reception -- not a good idea. They're also indicative of weak writing ... but why? This article covers why adverbs are evil and what you can do to avoid using them.

Soundzine Issue 5: We Want Your Goodies

~Soundzine:iconSoundzine: reports, February 20
Soundzine 5 is now accepting submissions!

After the tremendous success of #4, we’re looking forward to yet another issue packed with local and offsite talent. So, get those submissions polished up and sounding hot, and send 'em in!

Be sure to check out our submission guidelines here.

:pointr: We do prefer authors to record for themselves, but are happy to provide in-house readers when this is not possible.

:pointr: Flash fiction should be less than 1000 words, and can be on any theme.

:pointr: Please keep in mind that Soundzine will not be producing submissions to the Beat feature.

The ~Soundzine Editorial Team:

:iconadeimantus: -- Editor-In-Chief.

:iconsalshep: -- General & Art Editor.

:iconapocathary: -- Prose Editor.

:iconsrsmith: -- Technical Uberbeing.

....and for this issue, please welcome the lovely....

:icontheobviouschild: -- Editor, Beat Feature.

And let's not forget our scrumptious in-house readers: `darkcrescendo, *NLY, `alienhead, ~zebrazebrazebra, ~Tmunky, =kaujot, *tightwhitepants, *jonzoiplu, =Spiff-Johnson, and =smoking-mirrors.

:community: ARE YOU A MEMBER OF A WRITER'S OR DRAMATIC GROUP?

Whether it’s through school or in the community, Soundzine is eager to have your group involved.

You can submit Soundzine as a group, with each submission properly credited to each author in the body of a single e-mail. We also accept original plays produced for audio transmission. You should include information on your group in a brief bio, and provide relevant links to websites, etc. Those pieces accepted will be credited as being representative of your group or class, and if enough are accepted, we’ll give it a special feature. We would prefer group submissions to produce their own sound files, according to the submission guidelines above.

:star: COMING SOON: The Soundzine Film Festival, our special Surrealist Art feature (which will also be a writing prompt of extraordinary proportions), and much more!

It should likely resemble a midget, an apricot and fourteen bricks arranged in an intricately imperfect pattern, bathed in mineral oil, and having therein the skull of a moose.

I attained that knowledge by sucking at the sweet teats of the thank-you-Jesus. Next to the not right now, I'm busy contemplating Buddha, who has a really poor attitude, frankly about casual lip placement by perfect strangers when he is in Samadhi.

You post up a generic "you blew me off" without any context or explanation, then call me a bozo when I try to interpret it?
