We are princesses. We are nurses and doctors on demand. We are up all night when our lil one is sick, kissing them and making them all better. We are 5 star chefs preparing all family meals. We are nutritionists. We are fashion experts. We are counsellors and psychologists. We listen to our children and partners when they confide in us. We are thinkers. We are finance experts. We drive multibillion dollar economies. We are mothers. We are women. We have it in our power to move and change the world.

However sadly many of us are still undereducated, underprivileged, underpaid and abused throughout their lifetime. We constantly get put down in the world that is still trying to learn that we are equal to men. We still elect men to tell us what we can do and what we cannot. There is a relatively small percentage of women managers, not even to speak of the CEOs. There is a number of women being killed every year for having insufficient dowries, lots of women in undeveloped countries are getting their genitals forcibly mutilated, many women are forced at extremely young age into marriage with older men. We still live in society where female children are aborted and abandoned for being of not preferred sex. We get blamed by men for shortage of skilled labour; we get blamed for having children, then for not having enough children.

Its time to change this. Its time to create and empower us. Its time to change the world, and to show to girls and women that there is shining light on the end of the tunnel.

With this said I would like to invite everyone to participate in the new contest covering ALL GALLERIES with the theme “Empowering the Woman Within” This contest will be concluded as a part of the International Women’s Week on Deviant Art, and celebration of the United Nations sponsored event of 8th of March.

We would like the community to explore the theme through their artwork, not being limited by the media.

Where and how to submit artwork

All the artworks will have to be submitted under the following category:

contests & projects -> contests -> 2008 -> empowering women within -> art submissions

literature submissions


Each work submitted will have to have following specified in the artist comment:
• That it is made specifically for the contest
• Link back to this news article
• Give full credit to all references used, and please obtain the approval prior to using something as reference
• Mediums used
• Explain how the artwork complies with the theme

Each work will have to be:
• Brand new, it has to be submitted to Deviant Art between February 20 and March 8
• Has to comply to all DA policies
• Submitted to contest category

There will be only one award per artist issued.

Each Artist can enter up to 5 artworks.


Judging process
Upon the conclusion of the contest the judges will look through all the work submitted and narrow it down to their top 5. Each judge will do few sentences writeup why they liked each work and order it 1 to 5. The numbers will be tallied. In case there are no definite winners the shortlist will be created and the voting process will be repeated, until there are clear winners. The results will be posted shortly after and prizes issued.
