There will be one Mod character, in addition to the first death, used or mentioned this game. He is known only as the Reaper. You can learn more about him in the scenario.

The captain walked towards the bow of the ship. His mood had not improved any since their rapid departure from port two days ago. They sailed now as if death itself were after them. The irony of this thought was not lost on him as he gazed at the carved wood before him. Where most ships boasted a colorful siren or maiden, this ship was lead by a cloaked figure and scythe cut from the darkest ebony. Following the lead of her figurehead, the ship cut through the waves as easily as curved blade through crops or flesh.

Fear and death made a powerful combination. The captain often contemplated their unique hold one working in conjunction with the other. Fear alone was not insurmountable. Fear of the dark was conquered by a single candle. Fear of spiders was easily managed by a well placed shoe. The fear of pirates is dealt with by staying at home cowering under one's bed. On the other hand, fear of death was a power that gripped a man by his very soul and made him tremble. He understood this power and had wielded it for years. None, save his crew, knew his name. To all others, he and his ship were one. The Reaper. The dark apparition that came for the unfortunate and foolish who dared cross the sea unprepared.

The captain released the parchment from his hand and watched it drift lightly in the wind before being swallowed by the sea. It seemed he was to soon follow. That message had been clear. To those who had been watching the port, and his hasty departure, it would appear that he feared what was to come, feared their plans for him. The Reaper did not fear death any more than he feared this former deck hand using the name, “The Godfather”. He fear being defeated.

The Godfather commanded multiple ships and crews, it would not be long before The Reaper and her crew were found. That did not mean that the captain had to make things easy for them. If they wanted his treasure and to end his reign as the most feared of all pirates, they were going to have to work for it.

“Sir”

“It appears that the incompetent pirate you captured had some valuable information.”

“What information sir?”

“The pirate known as The Reaper plans to retire. He has issued a challenge to pirates around the globe. If they can decipher the clues and beat him to what is rumored to be considerable treasure, then they earn half the treasure as well as the ship.”

“Where do I fit in sir?”

“The pirate and crew that you captured will of course be hanged. You will gather a ship and a crew to go in their place. Gather as much information about these pirates and their hideouts as you can. We will use it to apprehend them later.”

“Yes sir”

After leaving the room, thoughts of the past immediately began to churn. Childhood horrors returned in vivid detail. Seeing one’s family murdered by pirates and being left for dead was bound to leave a lasting impression. It also left a strong thirst for vengeance. Gathering information about the pirates was the primary objective, but if a few should die in the process then that was even better. Who was going to know or complain? The pirates?
