The parasol is one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Tibetan Buddhism.
An umbrella or parasol (sometimes colloquially, gamp, brolly, umbrellery, or bumbershoot) is a canopy designed to protect against precipitation or sunlight. The term parasol usually refers to an item designed to protect from the sun, and umbrella refers to a device more suited to protect from rain. Often the difference is the material; some parasols are not waterproof. Parasols are often meant to be fixed to one point and often used with patio tables or other outdoor furniture. Umbrellas are almost exclusively hand-held portable devices; however, parasols can also be hand-held. Umbrellas can be held as fashion accessories.

reports, February 27, 2008The alley... or passage... or back street... whatever the nomenclature, they're part of a staple diet for many street photographers.
There's something magical about alleyways... firstly there's the sense of foreboding that you get walking into one, like a savvy mouse slowly stepping on a trap knowing the cheese is worth the risk. They can be dangerous places... but that's half the fun! Crazy tramps, falling masonry, delivery vehicles squeezing though...
So what's the cheese? Well, that's all around you... everything from the wonderful textures displayed upon rusted dumpsters, stairwells and security doors to the magical light that alleyways promote by their very shape accentuating the contours of every brick and door handle. Then, of course, if you're lucky enought to find a damp one, there are the puddles and associated reflections.
I hope you enjoy this seedy collection... please show the respective deviants your appreciation if you do.
