My friend posted this in his journal and I think it's important enough that the whole world should take a moment to reflect on it. Yes..the world lost a talented performer and artist in Michael Jackson..but there are many more tragic deaths occurring daily all over the world that go unnoticed. Please give these heroes your prayers and thanks too.

Perspective on Sight

~Skytrite:iconSkytrite: reports, July 15
Everyone has their own perspective, the way we percieve things is changable and uncertain. Yet, undeterringly we see things as good and bad, beautiful and ugly. I suppose this is my perspective on that kind of sight.

Seriously people,do we have to hate each other?

George Carlin on Religon

~TRegnier2795:iconTRegnier2795: reports, July 16
He's gone now, but George Carlin was a philosopher as much as a comedian. When he told a joke, he did it to make us think, and that is why he was a such a success: he told it like it is.

Here's lookin' at you, George.

Yaoi and Yuri - Is it okay?

~Bubblegum01:iconBubblegum01: reports, February 27, 2008
A while back being gay wasn't considered right because of religious beliefs or simply because no one thought it was natural.

Many are now beginning to except the fact that people are attracted to the same sex and are in same sex relationships. Still, many others have found people who are completely against gays and give us problems about it. On art websites, like DA, we need to give plenty of warning if our deviantions have some sort of gay or lesbian theme to them just to get away from discrimination.

I find it plain annoying when "yaoi or yuri haters" don't leave us alone to our own ideas. I happen to be very sensitive to hetero pairings and I find it hard not to tell that artist or writer to have a disclaimer or warnings before the viewer sees their art.

One person I know (I do not want to name names) says that he/she would have cared for a yaoi/yuri warning for the mature content choices in the submission of the art. Many of my friends argued, including me, with him/her on the fact that if there happens to be that kind of choice, there should be one for hetero relationships, bisexual relationships, black or white relationships, or any others. I'm still very against the fact of having any options like that and I'm sure it would offend many others.

I don't wish for this little article to be rude, but I feel strongly about the discrimination or online bullying that could be happening because of this. I hope the next time, you think before posting a nasty comment on someone's hard-worked on art.

mm i like the idea of individual mature labels. that way if you wanted to block mature images that contained, for example, inflation art, you could just adjust the setting in your profile.

i think yaoi/yuri are fine, but i agree that a revamp to the relatively new mature warning system would be nice
~artisticXexpressions:iconartisticXexpressions: Feb 27, 2008, 7:20:16 PM
I totally agree with you; if there were a warning against yaoi/yuri, it would only be equal to make such a warning for het material, as well.

then again, I believe that equality will NEVER be reached in life; the only equalizer out there is death. and drawing or writing about necrophilia would definitely warrant a "mature content" filter, even though in death, equality is finally reached.... ironic, eh?

(to people reading this comment: no, I'm not a necrophiliac. I'm not a mortician, either. and, nope, sorry; if you guessed that I'm a coroner or an embalmer, you're wrong again. I'm a senior in high school who's planning on majoring in English in college and becoming a novelist.)

Mhm. Yaoi and Yuri is good. Maturing is the same as just warning people! Why cant they just deal with it? Its happens everyday, like everyday someone is gay, or lesbian. so who cares?
We shuld all just accept everyone for who they are!?

Well, just to start off, you probably ought to be a little more cautious with your terminology. The Japanese slang terms "yaoi" and "yuri" specifically mean homosexual relationships (of the male and female persuasion respectively) depicted at a pornographic level. "Shonen-ai" and "shoujo-ai" (literally "boy love" and "girl love" respectively) refer to the less explicit version of each.
Anything at the pornographic level is against the deviantArt TOS.
:bulletblue: FAQ #60: Do you allow "Adult", explicit sexual or pornographic content on deviantART?
:bulletblue: FAQ #565: You prohibit the submission of 'pornographic material'; what do you consider this to be?
:bulletblue: FAQ #23: What are deviantART's policies on nudity?
:bulletblue: FAQ #305: Is posting 'Adult' oriented artwork alright if I censor it first?
So, the face-value answer to your question of "Yaoi and Yuri - Is it okay?", would have to be no. Based on the actual definitions of the words.

Now, as to what I believe you actually meant, "Shonen-ai and Shoujo-ai - Is it okay?"...
I'll admit, it's not my cup of tea. But if it is yours, you are okay to post it (as long as it is NOT pornographic - Please read the FAQ links provided regarding that).
If it is mature in theme, you will need to mark it as such though. It is entirely up to you, but as homosexuality is still often viewed as a matter of idealogical beliefs, you may want to check the "Idealogically Senstive" box on the mature setting. [Please read: FAQ #554: Is my deviation Mature Content?]

As the "Idealogically Senstive" setting does exist, there is no need for a "shonen-ai/shoujo-ai"-specific setting. Even if the DA Admin did add one, it would need to be a warning for "homosexuality" (which is a PR nightmare I don't think any of the DA employees would want to touch with a 10-foot-pole) because DA is not entirely made up of anime fans, and many people do not know these Japanese slang terms.

On Harrasment...
You should not be harrassed about your personal views. Responding to them (I know this is difficult to restrain yourself from) will not help matters. Most likely, the person is simply looking to get a reaction from you. The best move is to simply hit the "Hide" link for the comment. If you feel the need to respond, stay civil, simply say that you must agree to disagree and ask that they do not bring it up in your gallery again as it is not appreciated. If they cannot behave after that, you should probably just block them from your gallery. [FAQ #96: Can I block people from my user page?]

If the harrassment does go to an extreme, DA does have a method of recourse for you to handle that. (A method that does not involve petty flame wars. A flame war is not about to change either side's mind, and in the case of a troll, is exactly what they wanted to happen.) Please see the DA harrassment policy and just report them. The DA Admin will review and handle it. [FAQ #238: How do I report people for abuse, harassment, or another issue I may think is a violation?]

Well, I hope that was useful.

^^ It would help with all the problems I've been having. I've been thinking about perhaps having it as a "category" instead of a "warning"

^^; I suppose I mean Shonen-ai and Shoujo-ai in some cases, but I've seen so many people being annoyed about someone saying it's hardcore yaoi or yuri when it's not and I'm not sure where to draw the line anymore :worry:

I do sometimes think about putting the "Idealogically Sensitive" on my works but I've tried and people still kind of bug me XD ...plus the fact that straight and other couplings don't really put that and I end up looking at something I do not want to see ^^;
