With ours smiles we can create worlds. We are called the gentler sex, the weaker sex, the better half. We are artists. We create not only art but bring life into the world itself. We are entertainers. We are full of passion. We nourish. We provide a safe heaven in our arms for our children and partners. We inspire. We create. We live. We are mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, wives. We are Women.

Sadly in this world not all women have the opportunities that many of us take for granted. Many women are still uneducated; they are treated as commodity, property, and they are abused, disadvantaged. Many young girls are married off to older men before they are physically fully developed, having children before their bodies are able to bear children, many dying during labour or suffering consequences of it. Many female children get abandoned because they are not the preferred sex. Many women get paid less than men do for same job, and women in top level positions in corporate world are still a rare sight. We need to change this. We need to give strength and hope; we need to love, to empower. We need to reach for our dreams, for the stars. We need to be able to help those wanting to reach their dreams; we need them to be able to dream those dreams.

As a part of worldwide celebration of International Women’s Day, a UN sponsored event, we have decided to extend the celebrations for the whole week to celebrate everything woman, to celebrate the creations, our inspirations, to empower. We want to wipe off tears for all disadvantaged women, to give them the strength to reach for their dreams and be able to stand with the equal footing with men.

With the amazing army of volunteers and DeviantART staff we have decided to put up a week of celebration, and since it is a community driven event it is up to you to make it a success.

We have organised the following activities and would ask for everyone to participate:

“Empower the Woman Within” art contest finishing March 8 with tons of amazing prizes
Tons of articles featuring women Artists and Artisans, as well as women's issues and women's rights movement (when you write an article please send the note to with the title and link so it can be indexed) We would like to invite the community to participate in writing and posting the articles for the IWW.
We want to invite the whole community to feature the women artists in their journals, when you write a journal feature please send a note to so your journal can be added to master index
We are organising trivia night on damn on March 8th with tons of prizes and giveaways, time and place to be announced. 5pm EST (New York Time) (or 9am in Melbourne, Australia; 10pm in London) on #IntWomensWeek
We are inviting the community to please visit the female artists pages and wish them happy international women’s week and share some love. Tell them you appreciate them, give them a hug.
