`SparrowSong on writing, critique and her passions

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, September 28
An interview with writer, critic (critiquer?), lit senior, `SparrowSong. Here are some tidbits:

“I like that my passions change. If nothing else, it gives me more to write about.”

“Everyone has heard the expression, ‘Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.’ If you don’t learn to critique, you will always be dependent on others to help you instead of being able to do it by yourself.”

“Art changes how we view the surface of the world to reveal truth or beauty—or both—underneath.”

Angsty Literature Club

*Matadi:iconMatadi: reports, October 3
Since there is not much we are afraid of in the days of speeding optic cables, no need to talk sincerely since we do wear the egoist, shiny mantle of a digital avatar, why there is still "love" the most search after word on dA? We do have the need to touch and be touched,to smile, not often even cry, we are thirsty of eachothers footsteps in the sacred place called emotion.Living to tell we are so fragile, living to tell we are so strong, living to tell...

Take a rest, from time to time, step back and look around you,
catch what you see in a word.
what will it be?

I SPY News & ENTRY LIST

*salshep:iconsalshep: reports, March 3
Here’s the list of I SPY entrants, and a very good turnout we had!

And here I'd like to thank the Admin and GD's who put such a tremendous amount of time and effort into supporting and promoting this dA-wide comp. My gratitude, believe me, is quite proportionate to your efforts.

BUT OHNOES!!!!!!

:ohnoes: There have been serious problems with the comp categories. :ohnoes:

YES- all kinds of problems. The whole I SPY category actually disappeared for a while, and entries have been popping up and disappearing all over. High oddness, and obviously a coding issue that is hopefully now resolved.

:salute: BUT NEVER FEAR! :salute:

My motto of the day is: “When dA gives you lemons -- make some writers WORK HARDER!”

To make sure all the category bumps have been ironed out, ALL YOU GUYS who entered get an extra FOUR DAYS to get your work POLISHED UP before the judges get hold of it.

Four whole days!

So get your butts into #underlit, #prose please, #damnlit, any of the crit chats, go hassle the writers you admire, get your teachers, parents, friends to read it through, and SPELLCHECK, and whatever you need to do to get your entry looking its best.

You have until THURSDAY March 6.

Then the lists will be mailed off to our lovely judges, who get to relax and lounge about looking gorgeous for a little bit longer.

Judges will have two weeks to make their decisions, from where I will divvy up the HUGE prize pool.

____

:spotlight-right: IMPORTANT: if you submitted to I SPY before the FEB 29 closing date, and your work is NOT on this list, please note me ASAP!

Those who didn’t submit might like to take a read through these entries-- a LOT of excellent reading to be had here!

And here, I'm putting a shameless plug for SOUNDZINE just because I can.

Soundzine proudly features many deviantART writers and artists, and encourages exposure of their work not only to the wider population of the world OUT THERE, but also to those publication editors and well-known and successful writers among the many thousands who make up our readership (or listenership? o.O ).

We are now accepting submissions to Issue 5. Like all good lit publications, we are fussy-- but we also love to feature new writers, and those inexperienced with the publication process. You wizened old published folks are also more than welcome to send us in your prose and poetry, too. :D

Check out our Submission Guidelines!

Are we allowed to submit entries if we wanted to submit something but didn't make the deadline?

Nope, the deadline still holds. This is only for entries that were submitted before the deadline but possibly aren't showing up in the gallery, sorry.

Take the time to make some sense
Of what you want to say
And cast your words away upon the waves
Sail them home with acquiesce
On a ship of hope today
And as they land upon the shore
Tell them not to fear no more

*salshep,

I accept your thanks. :) It's always nice to hear that the notes you sent in regards to this competition, which were responded to with support and advice, were taken to heart. It's equally nice to know that you recognize how much *litNEWS strives to include all of your projects, including Soundzine's call for submissions and this lovely I SPY competition; we appreciate your continued gratitude in that. In addition, I am happy that you are happy with the :+favlove:, journal features, prize donations, and encouragement you received for this contest and its articles in something that spanned the run of five GDs--several of whom were involved in both behind-the-scenes and public ways to see this contest continue to be a success. It pleases me immensely that you especially recognize ^lovetodeviate's efforts in finding out why the category issues occurred and encouraging people to fix it as soon as possible for the benefit of such a worthy contest idea. I also respect your maturity in not demanding special treatment in regards to how GDs and others support equal endeavors, as this shows what a valued and understanding member of this community you truly are.

Really, I find your thanks to be one of your most admirable acts to date. We look forward to helping your projects be just as much of a success in the future. In addition, and on a personal note, I would like to thank you for agreeing to participate in the International Women's Week activities, you being such a pillar of the literature community and strong female role model for the young ladies on dA. It's unfortunate that you agreed to the interview only to have personal issues come up, as I am certain you would have had valuable things to contribute to help those children on dA you are always so commendably concerned with. It would've been something else, I'm sure.

,

Bill

Get your pieces critiqued, folks! It's a fine opportunity to learn how to improve yourselves--something we should all strive to do.

I read all the entries yesterday and one of the entries said Placeholder and nothing else. Today that entry is a long, long poem. The person was able to submit something during the deadline but didn't put anything there except one word. That long poem is not an edit on the word Placeholder. One person getting to submit something after the deadline doesn't seem fair.

I read your journal on poetry.com and you seem like a just person, but this doesn't seem just.
