2008 logotype design trends

`manicho:iconmanicho: reports, September 29
A great article for Graphic Designers, found at LogoLounge.

Periodically, something truly surprising and unexpected pops up. Finding those little treasures are one of the great perks of categorizing 27,000 logos, as LogoLounge and a talented panel of judges just did in preparation for our fourth book. But there's always that natural undercurrent of influence that touches this design and that, a drift of scent, a faint change in air temperature. It's there, but almost not.

This year, however, it seems as though there has been a change in the nature of trends themselves. Instead of a hub-to-spoke relationship in which trends fan out from a central source, prevailing tendencies in logo design now seem to send out long underground runners that poke through the dirt in unrelated, unexpected places, anywhere in the world. It's harder and harder to trace the rhizomatous spread of ideas anymore - which truly is a good thing.

As a professional Graphic Artist, I thought to share some of my professional experience with people interested in Professional Design procedures and guidelines, here in deviantART, through a little workshop. I will be posting news articles in different topics, like “Colors” (hopefully assisted by the feedback from other deviants).

Don’t get tattoo flash just because it’s trendy !!

=iblackmilk:iconiblackmilk: reports, March 4
The tribal designs widely used and applied nowadays go back to the black, silhouette like and geometric tattoo ornaments of the polynesians.

It was also tribal tattoos the sailors brought home to Europe, from their first journeys to Tahiti, before the influences of the sailors with maritime designs, the today called traditional tattoos, replaced the native motives.

Tattoos are a permanent way of expressing oneself and identifying ones’ loyalties so that others may see.

~ DA MOST IMPORTANT ~
Choose a tattoo design that has significance to you. And don’t get tattoo flash just because it’s trendy.

Even the best tattoo designs can be horribly manipulated by an inexperienced and incompetent tattoo artist. Check out their work and see if you can speak to any previous clients. They’ll let you know if the artist knows what they’re doing and if they’re comfortable to work with.

And if you think a bad-looking tattoo is the worst thing you can get you’re sorely mistaken. Does your tattoo artist have sterilization certificates? Are they vaccinated against Hepatitis B? Everybody knows you don’t want to share needles…but you don’t want to share ink either. It’s a good idea to go down to the shop and check out stuff and make sure it’s clean. (A good tattoo parlor won’t mind…and a bad one? Well you don’t want to be there in the first place.)

Remember it’s the artist’s job to turn your tattoo ideas into reality. So consult with them and talk about your procedure so you make sure you get what you want. Because whatever you get…you’re going to have it for a very long time.

Couldn't agree more. The two greatest regrets when it comes to tattoos are design and location.

A tattoo is a life long commitment it can be either a mark of pride or shame.

Research your design and your parlors and shell out those few bucks more to get a professional to do the ink work rather than some dodgy fellow.
