A visual and emotional journey through poetry of aging beautifully, for our beloved parents, grandmothers and grandfathers. I believe everyone who met them holds a beautiful memory of their existence in his heart, because having them is such a precious gift.
Poetry of aging
Look upon me carefully
See me living
See my wings spread wider than ever before
Do not end my journey
It is not time

The smell of a daisy
The cry of a newborn
The taste of a fine wine
The warmth of Love
The old contain all these experiences

I stand Alone
A strong Oak Tree
My Sturdy Limbs spread Wide
My leaves are Steadily Falling
A Child comes to Climb

It was as faint
as the steps of a child
padding across the floor in slippers,
and yet she was smiling.

I could almost hear a river
running beneath his breath.
The water clear and cold and deep.
He was ready and willing to wade on in.

When you are old and gray and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true;
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face.

And bending down beside the glowing bars
Murmur, a little sadly, how love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

as if, one by one, the memories you used to harbor
decided to retire to the southern hemisphere of the brain...
No wonder you rise in the middle of the night
to look up the date of a famous battle in a book on war.

No wonder the moon in the window seems to have drifted
out of a love poem that you used to know by heart.

Among the first we learn is good-bye, your tiny wrist between Dads forefinger and thumb forced to wave bye-bye to Mom.
