I find as I look through people's works of art that there are many, many pictures of pure excellence and that are extremely appealing for one reason and another. I will fave them, because I recognise aspects of expertise, good compositional value, styles of artwork that I particularly like (this is always a very individual thing) and of course, the aesthetic value that's inherent within these pictures.
However, there's another facet of art that I find intriguing. It goes deeper than the visual or even the emotional impact, reaching somewhere within to a spot which also reaches out, appreciates, and identifies in some strange way. This is something that's almost impossible to put into words, but the nearest I can get to it is Inspirational, something of the Divine - certainly extremely spiritual.
As mortals we rarely see beyond the polluted environments in which many of us live, unless we take a special visit (or happen to have the privilege of living in) an extraordinary area of extreme beauty. We behold a beautiful scene and it will often be just that, beautiful. We try to make something of it in our artwork, but what's really there just may elude us for some strange reason.
My recent exploits into HDRi (High dynamic range imaging) in photography was inspired as a result of seeing some amazing pictures produced this way by a few other photographers here at dA. I started to reason why these images are of such an appeal to me, and came to a realisation that if we were spiritual beings rather than mortals, we would see things very differently indeed. There would be nothing in the way of seeing the purity of a scene with its full colour spectrum. Many who have had near death experiences (NDE) have reported this to be the case.
I then went on to realise that this is something that is extra dimension of colour is something that is also available to us in many of the fractal works we are able to produce - that purity of colour with its full spectral range available for us to use to its best advantage.
Of course, painting - whether it be digital or traditional - is also capable of being produced in such a dynamic way, but all these things need to be done with extreme care. There are colours that clash with one another in a horrible way, and so instead of a beautiful dynamic range, we tend to find our eyes "boggled" at such a sight. There are also methods of creating works of art (in my personal opinion) that can culminate in a gaudy appearance without harmony. Some people like this sort of thing of course, and often there are specific messages to be conveyed in such art.
My personal taste in beautiful art, no matter what its form, is in the peaceful, the depth of colourful spectrum that is strictly in harmony, and that inherent ability to reach out in a very spiritual manner.
Below are some pictures which I have been collecting over the past few weeks which demonstrate this principle well. They are the ones out of my showcase of favourite artworks that have this extra dimension - but note, there are some monochrome ones too!! These are the ones that convey all of the above but without the need for colour!
I hope you will enjoy them too...

Remember, these are only what I personally consider to be extra special, and I fully understand this will conflict with the opinions of others - no problem!
