Concerning The spiritual in Art: A Review

*gromyko:icongromyko: reports, September 23
Every work of art is the child of its age and, in many cases, the
mother of our emotions. It follows that each period of culture
produces an art of its own which can never be repeated. Efforts
to revive the art-principles of the past will at best produce an
art that is still-born. It is impossible for us to live and feel,
as did the ancient Greeks. In the same way those who strive to
follow the Greek methods in sculpture achieve only a similarity
of form, the work remaining soulless for all time. Such imitation
is mere aping.

IWW: Women's day in Croatia

=Ilharess:iconIlharess: reports, March 7
English

Women's day in Croatia
Note: in case you will be wondering, I decided to write this text in both English for you all to understand and in my native Croatian as this is partially about my country too.
This article is part of the IWW happening announced by ^sbaraci at [link]
I was born in 1971, the year that Croatia first tried to come out of the communism and former agglomerate of the countries. So, I can remember some things about that (in)famous Woman's day, that should actually be a reminder of what women had to do around the world to gain equal rights and how much work is still ahead of us.
I'm not that old to remember the times when women had no right to vote, and could not get proper schooling in the part of the world I live. But to understand the situation here, most of you would need a brief explanation: Croatia entered communist Yugoslavia after WWII. Religious holidays were mostly ignored, if not forbidden to celebrate, and Croatia is major Catholic country. In Catholic calendar, one Sunday in may is marked as Mother's day (there is also Father's day, dunno when exactly). But as this was not celebrated in these days, International Woman's day was usually called Mother's day, which is not fair. What I do remember from my childhood is that I always got something from my dad on that day, and some would say that I was not a woman (yet) nor a mother, but her felt the right spirit of that day. In days after the communism, all those days that would otherwise be celebrated as reminders of fights for people's rights, were despised because of the bad memories people had on those days. On Woman's day, there would usually be celebrations "in honour" or the women, and men would come home drunk, with one squished rose. So instead of the respect, which should actually be there the whole year, wife would have to deal with "happy" guy at home.
But I feel it is time to change that again, although after all those years it is hard for the older people. So on that day, instead of making it only a day, I want you to remember what that day means, how much work was done, how many lives lost, and how much there is still to be done in many parts of the world. I can understand some women are happy the way they live, but they all deserve a right to choose their lives. Not all of them want to be housewives, and surely none of them wishes to be a slave although many of them don't know it can be different because they lack communication and education. Not all of us can or wish to be a mother to the children, but we are all mothers to our ideas and actions.
So guys, if you're reading this, think about how you feel about your lady, and if you think you're missing something, try to change your attitude and show her some love, not with presents, but real feelings. Give her support. Just hug your special lady. Don’t let this day be the only such day in the whole year, make it a turning point towards the better understanding what is really important: respect. Remember, men and women are different but are equal. Explore the difference to enrich your life.
I will not forget women that found their other half of a couple in another women: it doesn’t mean that you will better understand each other by default, you have to work equally to make your partner feel loved and respected.
And for the end, some features of the Croatian lady artists here on dA. More of their works you will find in their galleries, and many more Croatian artists in our national ~HRclub
Won't feature my work here, so if you are curious…visit my gallery ;)
