Weekly Help Desk Updates - March 7th, 2008Introduction
Welcome to the weekly Help Desk Updates. In these weekly updates we will attempt to bring you the most up to date news concerning the Help Desk & FAQ, as well as provide some helpful hints for super duper deviantART fun.
Hexe's Corner
Unfortunately due to some major site issues our area of the Help Desk is currently under a
week 5 day backlog, if you have a ticket currently submitted and are awaiting a first response we ask that you do not submit a new ticket inquiring about the status of your previous case as this will further lead to even more of a backlog.
We apologize for any inconvenience the backlog has caused and hope to have it under control shortly.
In other news once our backlog is cleared up we will begin work on a new series of guides to help assist you in getting the most out of your Help Desk experience.

Due to many recent additions to dA, I would like to remind everyone to please make sure that you update your browser to the latest possible version. We also recommend that you do not use beta versions of browsers as due to their beta quality they may not function exactly how they are supposed to and as such could cause some problems with your browsing experience.
So how do you know what version you are using and how do you update your browser? Well to start off you can go to your browser and most often they have a button at the top that states help. Under help there should be something along the lines of "About (Browser Name)". This should tell you what version number you are using. You can then go to your browser's website and check to see what version number they have as the latest version. Here is a list of the most common browsers used by deviants
FirefoxInternet ExplorerSafariOperaIf your lucky some browsers actually auto-update such as Firefox and ask you if it's ok if it updates. Also some browsers have an update button under their help drop down. Don't forget to read $
y2jenn's article below on why it's important to keep you browser up to date!

ewm has already covered how to go about updating your browser. I would like to cover why it's important to keep your browser updated. It's difficult to make a site compatible with every single version of every single browser out there. And because of that some older versions might not respond well to new changes or updates to websites. The internet is changing all the time, with new techniques for making sites more powerful, better looking or more useful. The older your browser is the less likely it'll be to display the sites you visit properly. Aside from happy browsing, keeping your browser updated ensures you're taking advantage of the updates that fix security problems in previous versions.
More often than not, if a problem with deviantART's display arises and you're using an older browser a quick update will do the trick. Please be aware that, like I said earlier, not all sites are compatible with every version of every browser out there. If you come to us gals here at the
Help Desk for help and the only solution is to update our browser please give it a try. We realize you might be comfortable with what you're using but a browser version released in 1998 is not going to react well to most of todays websites. Update your browsers, deviants! If the problem persists and it's not an issue with your machine please do not hesitate to contact us at the
Help Desk.

Weekly Tip
