Women's week is over but I hope to have inspired you or taught you something that would stay with you every day. I don't think Women's Week or Women's Day is purely about women. I think it's about respecting the differences between
people.
So for the last day of IWW, I bring you *
Beccald, last, but definitely not least.
Hello, *
Beccald and first of all thank you for dedicating your time for this interview.
International Women's Week is coming up (3-9 of March) and so we devised a series of interviews for you, from deviantART's most wonderful women artists. They are as varied as you could imagine - photographers, stock artists, digital painters, web designers and more but they all share one common thing.
They are women.
"As many of us already have read, or know, women had to fight for their equal footing with the men, and in some parts of the world they are still very underprivileged. We as women still get paid less than men for same positions, a lot of us are undereducated, a number are being treated as commodity even slavery, forced into prostitution... We even have girls at extremely young age being forced into marriage with much older men, and what makes it even worse their bodies are underdeveloped for childbearing and many die during childbirth or suffer later from side-effects of it, such as weak bladder and lowering of the uterus, being outcasted by community and families. We still struggle to break the glass ceilings in the corporate world, and in many parts of the world women do not have right to vote, or even speak up.
So in order to change this, to give all those young women hope, and a drive to succeed we wanted to organise the event that will empower women, that will give women and girls strength to reach for their dreams, that extra push they need."
Today, we are superwomen. We are doctors, nurses, managers, secretaries and mothers.
Please tell us about yourself.*
Beccald: Rebecca Lee Dillingham aka Becca
Who am I? Well I could tell you that I was born in Utah, I am the middle child of 8, that I moved to California and ended up coming home due to debt, or I could even tell you that I have moved 17 times in my 22 years; but who in their right mind wants to hear the mindless chatter of my past?
I am currently living back home in Utah where I work a normal 8 hour day 40 hour week, just like any other person; however, that is only to pay the bills. After hours I spend my time in front of my laptop computer mulling over many of my projects until all hours of the night, that range anywhere from video slide shows to Myspace layouts. This fact I find rather amusing because my college experience was not about anything graphic wise; it was about film and video production, which I only got through one year of, before the school lost its accreditation, and I lost 39,000 dollars into. I have however taken any and all of that knowledge and put it to use helping people with their photography needs.
There is one thing I learned out in Sunny Southern California though, that I would never pass up for the world; and that was that as long as I have a camera attached to my fingers I am happy. It doesnt matter what the task is, it could be taking pictures of anything from a rock to the very edges of a towering castle, I would still love it. I will never lie to you and tell you that I am a professional, but I can tell you that I do my best, and get the best image possible.
What do you think are the biggest issues for women in the world today?*
Beccald: I think the biggest issues for women now is surviving in the work place. Companies have worked hard to accept that women are starting to dominate, however they still seem to place men in those promotions and higher positions. They seem to assume that because you're a woman you should be at home with the children and nothing more.
Woman also have a lot of pressure put on them to look good and be in the best shape. I have seen soo many women that turn into habitual dieters simply for the fact that they don't look as thin as so-and-so, or get surgery after being insulted their whole life about the size of their nose. It seems that people have a hard time accepting who we truely are.
Do you think there is an easy fix to this problem?*
Beccald: Not really, the only way to fix the problem is to change peoples view of Women .. and that could take centuries, however if we work together as women to prove that we are worth more then they think, I believe that we can achieve that fix.
Who are the women you look up to or inspire you the most? (it can be on dA or in real life)*
Beccald: There are so many people I could say that inspire me, because every person that comes into my life touches my life for better or for worse, and with each comes inspiration. A few very influential people here on DA … to my life though are (and are in no special order)
*

- This woman has inspired me to continue my art and my photography, and has taught me the meaning of true friendship.
*

- Such a beautiful woman inside and out; constantly making sure that I feel loved, as well as cheers me on through rough patches.
*

- This lady has done sooo much for the stock world here on DA, as well as someone I can look to if I have questions, or just need someone to talk to.
*

- This woman is amazing.. no matter how much I gripe and moan, she has stuck with me, inspiring me to greatness!
*

- A true believer in supporting a cause, no matter what life threw her way she has hurdled it and continued on with a smile on her face!
*

- When I moved back to Utah and discovered that I had no one I could turn to, this beautiful woman took me under her wings, and helped me more then she probably knows.
*

- A truly beautiful young woman, who along with me have an ailment that can drag us down, and yet because we share this common bond, are able to over come them together!
We know deviantART is a wonderful place to grow as an artist in. Do you think deviantART has helped you realise things about yourself in the context of being a woman? Has it helped you grow as a woman?*
Beccald: Deviantart has been the greatest boost to my self-confidence, as well as a realization that no matter how old, no matter what gender you are; you can achieve your best no matter what society says. Unlike myspace where your profile is used to keep tabs on your life, DA is better suited to monitor your achievements in art, and the beauty you create.
What message would you leave for the future women? (if you had a little sister, what would be the most important thing you would pass on to her?)*
Beccald: The very most important thing for the women to follow to know, is that they are capable of virtually ANYTHING… if you set your heart and mind to it , there is nothing that can get in your way.
We're women from dawn to dusk. Can you tell us of an event that your being a woman hindered you in?*
Beccald: Well the one event that comes to mind is finding a “Coach- Pitch” team for girls back when I was 7… however I overcame that hindrance and joined in with the guys, being the tallest and
only girl on the team ^_^.
As far as trying to fix that, I would suggest that we open our minds past the old traditions that keep telling us woman should only be at home, and notice that sports, businesses as well as every day life can be done just as well as any other person, regardless of gender.
What do you think is the most important thing people should realise about women?*
Beccald: That no matter how much we complain, we have the most tender, and forgiving hearts, as well as a large amount of pure determination to succeed, we will stop at nothing to achieve what we want/ need.
Is there anything you would like to add?*
Beccald: I would just like to add a special thank you to

for hosting this wonderful interview process, and tell all women out there, as I would a sister; to
never never never give up, you are truly loved.
Again, thank you *
Beccald for taking the time to let us get to know a woman's life from up close.
