`SparrowSong on writing, critique and her passions

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, September 28
An interview with writer, critic (critiquer?), lit senior, `SparrowSong. Here are some tidbits:

“I like that my passions change. If nothing else, it gives me more to write about.”

“Everyone has heard the expression, ‘Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.’ If you don’t learn to critique, you will always be dependent on others to help you instead of being able to do it by yourself.”

“Art changes how we view the surface of the world to reveal truth or beauty—or both—underneath.”

Great Novelists on deviantArt - Vol. 1

*SpideyGeek:iconSpideyGeek: reports, March 11
While deviantArt features many sensational short story writers and poets, there are many writers who go without the praise due to their talent as aspiring novelists. These heroic scribes brave the critiques of their peers to become better wordsmiths, while treating us to epic tales of characters both ordinary and extraordinary. And while we all strive for the coveted prize of that elusive publishing contract, in the meantime these writers have attracted a rare bunch within the cyber world. Fans who persevere through reading pages of work on a computer monitor. ;)

This is the first of a series I hope to do exposing other deviants to the fantastic novelists who call dArt home. This first feature will highlight novelists I watch, but if you have a favorite novelist who deserves a piece of the limelight, then note me with their link and they'll be added to the next set of five.

Here's the first set of five for you!

1. *denlm
A sensational writer who should have been plucked into the publishing industry a long time ago. Her current work in progress is an erotic thriller entitled jon.com that has had me on the edge of my seat, but Fellowship of Psys is another delight. Immerse yourself in the underground world of psychics and the caste system that pits genetic grooming against true romance.

2. *katarthis
While the only work of his I'm familiar with at this time is the scintillating tale of a gritty, cyber-rich reality called Techno, I have it on good authority that the collected works featured in his gallery are all worthy of reading, whether or not you're partial to anthropomorphic characters. He certainly made a believer out of me.

3. ~ZomaS-M
There are distinct moments I find myself unable to believe this deviant is only eighteen. Her work is far more mature than her years and Gargoyle is an incredible take on realm of vampires, focused closely upon the lives of Hannah Wallstone and the Ansel vampire collective led by the powerful Jonathan Sicari.

4. =DarcKnyt
While I consider dialogue one of my strong suits, the way DK approaches it puts me to shame. The back-and-forth discussions his cast of characters engage in captivate the reader from the start in both Ghost Hunters and its sequel Witch Hunt. I never knew I'd fall in love with someone who speaks 90% street lingo until I met Dillon. I dare you to resist.

5. ~LunaticStar
Last, but certainly not least. While I don't know if she intends Travel Diary to be a novel-length work, the on-going series of journals by the dark angel Ahren is an introspective look into what happens when a being is displaced twenty years into the future and forced to reckon with the changed world around him. I admit, I'm a sucker for a melancholy narrator and her writing ability makes his ponderings both emotive and engaging.

That's all for now!

Indulge yourself in some awesome reading and, while you're at it, throw some support toward ^ArtisticAunJuli's push for a dA Marketplace. This could be an awesome opportunity foe self-published writers to sell their wares upon dArt as well! More information on her journal: [link]

Oh my word, I am so flattered! You are the best. Thank you thank you thank you. Now to anyone reading this article, don't forget to check out Spidey Geek as well. Her kudos are cherished precisely because her writing is itself worthy of intense praise. Start with The Vampire Flynn trilogy; you'll be sucked into this sexy vampire's world faster than you can say "O Negative." Delicious stuff that I personally cannot live without.

I'm honored, SpideyGeek! Thank you so much for selecting me to be among the incredible talents you've showcased here. And the words coming from you make them all the sweeter, being such a wonderful talent yourself. It feels like I'm a bit out of my league being mentioned with some of these people. I'm moved that you find so much in my writing.

If you're reading this article and its comments, don't miss SpideyGeek's own work. It's an amazing ride through many diverse worlds, from superheroes to psychic vampire assassins. She's an incredible author in her own right, and I don't know any of us that don't envy her production rates! :)

One must give credit where it is due. On my own I lack the motivation, but it's people like you and like others that you listed here that keep me loving what I do. This is my cyber-home, and you're a beloved part of my cyber-family!

No doubt I'll be remembering you for the rest of my life, Mrs. Jules. You and your own brilliant masterpieces.
