The announcement came two weeks ago when the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has decided to remove federal protections from the northern Rockies gray wolf. The Bush adminstration had passed the decision to allow the hunting of wolves since Idaho, Wyoming and Montana think it's the most viable solution to control the wolf population in those states.
After long hard work and money to re-introduce the gray wolves to the U.S., the states of Idaho, Wyoming and Montana want to hunt the 1,000 out of the remaining 1,500 that are existing. The wolf population in the U.S. as a whole are still endangered and are at risk of surviving from disease, viral infections and over devolpment of their enviorment.
Wolves play a huge importance in the eco-system and if they are to be hunted down to a mere fraction then other problems will arise such as a threat from other predators, a huge rise of grazing species such as deer and elk along with rodents and burrow creatures.
Hunting wolves is not a solution to control the wolf population where there are other means to do so. Even scientist agree with this.
