Group Accounts In DA

`cmptrwhz:iconcmptrwhz: reports, March 13, 2008
wouldn't it be nice to enable an option in your settings on your account to turn your account into a GROUP account. This meaning that no one can FAV, COLLECT, DOWNLOAD, or COMMENT on a picture, they would need to follow the original link in the artist comment area to the original artist's picture and do their faving, collecting, commenting, and downloading from there. I help with several group accounts and we disable the commenting and downloading but we are unable to prevent the faving and collecting of deviations.

I understand that this would be bit of work for the programmers and I really understand if they don't want to do something like this but it would give the real artist the attention that is deserved and that is what we want as group admins too. We don't want the attention we want the artist to be recognized as the creator and for the artists to get the acknowledgment of a job well done from the DA users.

I have the idea that if we signify the account as a group account, then goto the image detail page, and when a user clicks the image they would be taken to the original artist's deviation. On the page there would not be the option to fav, collect, download, or comment there would just be a link asking them to follow it to the original deviation in the artist's comment area.

It would only be one new template page to display the gallery image detail page (or php script to auto hide the options and not allow them to be used), a php script check system added to the submission page to determine what type of submission to accept, and add one check box to the settings page. As for the databases there would need to be a new table created with 2 fields, gallery submission ID of the image just submitted(primekey), and the link to the original artist's deviation (thumb code). For the account settings database you already have a system to classify an account(system admin, seniors, staff, GD, etc...) as a certain type of account you would just need to choose an identifier of something that your not using as a Group account identifier. For all the other pages including the gallery and everything else can still be used but when the image viewing page is loaded then there would be a small php code in the beginning asking the database if this is a group account or a deviant account to determine which page options to display to the user and as you know you already have that system in place.

For the submissions page you would allow everything as is but add a field for a thumb link to the original image. This being stored in the extra table described above. This link would then be used in association with the image detail page viewing to guide the DA user to the original image made by the original artist.

if you feel that the individual artist should receive the acknowledgments from the DA users rather than the group account receiving the praise then please vote at my poll and leave a comment letting DA know you want the attention rather than letting the group accounts get all the favs, collections, comments, and downloads. I know my idea is not perfect and could use tweaking but this is the idea.

:iconfwipp-deathspeeder:
It'd make what group accounts are already doing much more simpler, if things were the default, as you say.

I don't see how anyone could try and abuse that system either, since only a group would want to have those features.
:iconemmil:
I don't agree with your first idea of clicking the real link in the comment box... it takes tto much time, but I'm agree with this:

"I have the idea that if we signify the account as a group account, then goto the image detail page, and when a user clicks the image they would be taken to the original artist's deviation. On the page there would not be the option to fav, collect, download, or comment there would just be a link asking them to follow it to the original deviation in the artist's comment area."

The group accounts have been announced for ages, so I'm afraid they're not gonna come any time soon :hmm:

when i just started dA i found out about such clubs. at the first moment, i thought it worked like that but then they told me it did not. i also proposed that someone back then, and am still hoping they find an easy script to do it. two major problems with clubs are - first: you take up the space on the servers two or more times, and second: you can disable comments but not favs.
good you brought it up again :)
