Hello there! This news article is the result of a thumb share thread I posted few days ago on the dA forum along with pictures from my favorites. I hope you enjoy them.
Lifehacker takes a look at the 5 Best online image editors. For those of you that don't use Photoshop, I highly suggest taking a look at this, as these apps allow you to edit your images in a browser window, and some are VERY powerful!
In this article you will find many thumbnails of the sun in different forms, all photography featured here by the club feature-me. Please show your support for these artists and their work and the article so that more people can see their work.
I think its very unfair that a beautiful piece of art gets falsely labeled as pornography and removed from the art community as a direct result of only one or two individuals' personal opinions. While vice versa - a pornographer is able to claim that his photos are 'art' when its obviously just smut. This, of course, does not apply to only photography.
I came up with the idea that we needed a DA page dedicated to helping to clean up this problem with a fair voting system. Every deviant 18 and over gets to vote with their respectfully stated opinions on whether or not the piece should be considered art or porn. That way, everyone gets a say instead of just one or two people. Of course, I am still in the process of planning how its all going to work, and there are going to have to be rules for everyone to follow to avoid conflict between deviants(if you have any helpful suggestions, please let me know)
I do realize that this is a huge issue that many people feel strongly about, and that it may be a bad idea overall regardless of my good intent to make DA a better place...
Therefore I want to know what my fellow deviants think of this idea. Do you think this is a good idea for the DA community?
Please tell me what you think and why in my poll: [link] I very much respect everyone's opinion on this, and I ask that you all do the same to me and each other while voting.
Thank you!
P.S.~
(yet again, I have no idea if I submitted this in the right category. please forgive me, if it is incorrectly placed)
Any deviations which depict any of the scenarios outlined in that FAQ should be reported through the proper channels, and they will be removed by staff.
Considering we already have this system in place for handling this, I don't really see the point of putting images to a "vote" as to whether or not people think they're porn. It would be completely based on individual preferences, which will vary greatly based on people's upbringing, geographic location, age, religious views, etc. None of it really makes any difference, because guidelines have already been laid down to define "porn" on DA, and those standards are the only ones that will be followed when deciding if deviations stay or go.
I believe all that will be accomplished by "voting" is getting a bunch of deviants flamed because your voters don't care for their artwork.
It's true that this system exists but from what I have seen on DA it doesn't seem to be a completely functioning system. I know lots of people whose art has been misconstrued as porn when it was pretty clearly not. And yet there are tons of other things on dA that seem to be rather clearly porn yet they still have their images up and what not. Sure dA may be cracking down on other people but... eh this system doesn't seem to be working very well and only seems to be part of the drama.
I can't say that I can see the voting system being the best; I agree that this could definitely lead to flaming. But it might be worth trying at least. I really don't think the dA system is very effective so it's worth a shot to try something else.

Yes, it may indeed fail... I wasnt saying that I was a genius and that this was absolutely going to work. It would -however- be more fair system than the one already in place. I sure dont see anyone else standing up to help solve the problem, so I might as well pitch my ideas, right?
DA's system does work, but only with reports from users. I can't tell you how many times I've seen rant journals about something; pornography, ripping, or some other inappropriate deviation, with hoards of users crying "OMG WHY WON'T DA DOING ANYTHING STUPID STAFF NEVER DOES ANYTHING!!11"
And then... some brilliant individual suggest reporting said deviation, and the response is something along the lines of "HOW DO I DO THAT??"
For some reason, everyone cries but no one reports. That's why the system isn't working as intended.
A brand new monthly article which showcases some of deviantART's finest equine artists, as well as recognizing the lesser-known but equally talented ones. Interviews, helpful tutorials and features can all be found here too! I hope you enjoy it.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

FAQ #565: You prohibit the submission of 'pornographic material'; what do you consider this to be?
And what to do if you find it:
FAQ #155: How do I report a submission which I think breaks the rules?
