FINALLY! For those that haven't been following the NN movement, Net Neutrality is the belief that the internet should be free to all consumers and not have your internet be monitored by your ISP.
Unfortunately for Comcast customers they discovered last summer that Comcast was limiting their usage of P2P programs such as Limewire and BitTorrent and then lying about it, saying "It was probably a technical glitch". But after extensive tests run by Carnegie Melon in conjunction with students from MIT, they found that Comcast was forging net connections which ended abruptly and stopped your download.
Comcast continued to deny it until Free Press dropped a lawsuit in their laps. The FCC agrees and will vote on the movement to fine Comcast for violating the Net Neutrality law.
BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! The websites you know and love could soon become unavailable as quickly as 2010...unless you're willing to pay.
Comcast, Verizon and AT&T are literally spending tens of millions of dollars to lobby Congress to drop the internet in their laps and let them decide how to use it. That means that you would have to actually PAY to get to high traffic sites that those companies do not own. Which means DeviantArt, MySpace, Facebook, Gaia and YouTube would be come unavailable for users who do not want to pay.
Speak up, Speak out, Rally your representatives and save the internet.

Because I know that they receive a butt load of messages each day and yet they still don't reply back maybe they should take their time one day and just answer all their messages. And when they have an artblock or they are just bored they should take the time to reply if they have nothing else to do. Every artist should be loved!

I also agree with you on the commissions thing. I've always wanted to get a commission from one of them, but they're over priced.

(Example comment: "Cool" ...how would you reply to that? Just "thank you"? That took more time to reply to than it did for the commenter to write it. :/ )
A rule of thumb with me on trades is that if the artist has the time to make random gift art for people, then they -should- have the time to take trades. Hell, I've seen some popular artists who make giftart after giftart for their friends while overlooking current trades and commissions that they owe. Mostly, though, a lot of the more popular artists don't have the time for trades either and must rely on the money they get from commissions.
(you could also argue that the popular artist has been screwed so many times in the past on trades that they don't even see the point of it anymore. The more popular you are, the more likely you'll be taking a trade with a stranger who will rip you off rather than taking a trade with a friend that you know well)
It's really the artist's decision to decide how much they charge for commissions, by the way. If it takes them 20 hours to make the piece, why would they charge only 20 bucks for it? That's a dollar an hour at best (if you assume that paypal fees and other fees don't exist). At that rate, they'd be better getting a job at McDonalds: they'd be making 7 times the pay, after all. When dealing wiht artwork, though, the market will be the true judge as to if an artist is overcharging. If the artist is still getting a steady stream of commissions at their current price, it's unlikely that they'll lower it anytime soon. That's like if you were doing a great business selling..... uhm ..... beans for 7 bucks a piece. If person after person comes by and buys your beans, why would you lower the price? Just because one person didn't like it? I seriously doubt it. Now if no one was buying the beans...the price would probably drop and drop until it's a reasonable price....
