As part of Pin Up Week here on deviantART I'll be doing a series of interviews with some of dA's most prominent Pin Up photographers.
first up was
Wickedhailey. Today we turn our attention to =
cosfrog1)First off introduce yourself? Who are you, where are you from? Whats your fav food etc etc haha!Well I was hatched in San Diego and have been afraid to leave ever since. Currently have 2 kids that I know of, a wife, an ex wife and a dog and cat. I eat, sleep, dream photography when Im not dealing with real life issues that seem to want me to stop.
2)What first drew you to photography? And in turn Pin Up photography
I dabbled with photography off and on since HS. Took a class in college (hated it) developed my own film on the base photo lab (yes 8 years marines) and finally when taking photos of my son playing baseball I moved into it more full time and started my sports photography business. Almost every weekend of the year I will be out shooting baseball, soccer, or football and have done quite well (its what has paid for all my gear). Couple years ago, against advice of some photographers I know

, I started shooting models. Soon learned what they were saying, but for the most part it has been enjoyable and an ever learning process that I have enjoyed. Since then I have started doing portraits and exploring more of the artistic and alternative styles of photography and hope to continue.
3)In your view, what makes a great pin up photo?Breasts!! Seriously its more of the implies sexuality of the image that makes it pin up. To me pin up is more clean and simple like the works of Vargas. Don't need busy backgrounds with a lot of props. Keep it simple and focused on the beauty of the subject
4)What do you look for in a model for your pin up work?Curves. A pin ups are not the pencil thin women of the fashion world. Again the subtle almost hidden sexuality. Expressions are key so they must be outgoing. I also love tattooed women in my work.
5)What do you think of the new pin up that can be found on sites like Gods Girls and Suicide Girls. Is that really pin up in your opinion or is it something else that has its roots in Pin Up?Woah don't get me started down this path. But no I do not consider these pin ups at all....maybe when SG first started, maybe but no its not even artistic nude for the most part now.
6)Is there anyone that you wish to work with?Ive always enjoyed Bernie Dexter's work and would love to shoot her sometime
7)I know for myself, music and my friends/lifestyle, movies are a big influence on my work, what influences you day to day? And does it creep into your work.Thats a tough one to nail down. Everything around me influences my work. I'm constantly soaking in my environment and the works of others.
8)When youre not shooting, what do you do?LOL processing shoots or thinking how I can improve my business and skills. Occasionally I'll spend some time with the family
9)What attracted you to deviantARTI lurked on dA from time to time but resisted joining another site for a long time. Don't know what finally did it, I guess I had a misconception about the site and then started seeing some of the photography and decided to jump in. Haven't regretted it, its one of my top 3 sites that I live on (even a distraction at times)
10)Who are some of your fav artists on deviantART=
DavidLawrence *
EldorGemst =
Pelicanh *
edaoust *
boxedphotos to just name a few
11)What are some of your fav images This very hard...hmmmm

Love the simplicity, loneliness to me.

Very powerful image and love the paining quality or the photo, oh and I love natallie

Eric's work is typically simple and beautiful, don't need fancy backgrounds and props to show simple beauty such as this.

Shes my buddy

She is who she is and not ashamed to show it, a lesson to all of us. To me this image shows a fragile side of her don't know why, just what I get. Love the treatment of it as well.

Besides her obvious outer beauty, Rachel's self portraits always show to me her inner beauty. They depict such emotion, how she feels in her daily life.
12)What is YOUR fav image of your own and why?Not sure I can really narrow down a favorite, sorry
13)Where would you like to see dAs pin up gallery go? Should we have a new and old school categories?Don't think an old/new school is needed. My big thing would be to just clean it up. There are a lot of images that are not even close to being pin-up.
14)Whats up next for you? Any big projects?I'm actually slowing down on the art side and trying to grow my portrait side, make enough money to leave satans grip (the day job) but I will always enjoy shooting art just for the sake of shooting and will never give it up. Hope to expand my role and Skin&Ink someday soon (guess that means learning to write) and start doing gallery shows as well.....lots of dreams....
Some great shots from =
