The Cycle

=Goodfoot42:iconGoodfoot42: reports, March 27, 2008
There is nothing better than checking your page and being over whelmed with messages. To see someone has dug through the depths of your gallery and shed some new light on one of your older pieces is the best compliment ever. To see your newest uploads explode with :+fav: ‘s gives you the challenge of making your next piece even better.

When people :+fav: my work I’m stoked because that means that particular piece struck them in some profound way. When I :+fav: something, it’s usually because I wish I took that shot. It’s the ultimate compliment.

Now that work that was just :+fav: -ed ends up on the :+fav: -er’s home page. Others go to check his/her page and look at their last deviations and their random favorites. Maybe find another interesting one, click on and boom...complete snowball effect. It’s funny because it works a lot like pop-up ads in that people may see a random favorite and click on and end up in their gallery.
I end up doing this a lot myself. I always check an inspirational artists favorites. It never fails to find new pieces to add to your favs.

This is all common sense and I’m sorry if it’s redundant but:

I’m really starting to think that the whole thanking for faving thing is a little out of control. Don’t get me wrong, it’s polite to thank and I do so myself most of the time. When I don’t, should I feel like an ungrateful prick? No. I don’t think so. Everyone knows that you appreciate the :+fav: on link.

This is why DA is so great, it’s the community that is almost too polite.

I always thank a new watcher or a multiple :+fav: -er. I usually end up in most everybodies galleries as well. If I see something I like, I :+fav: it. This is thank you enough in my book and it feeds the community.

To anyone who I :+fav: or comment on: It is not necessary to thank me, just keep the cycle going. Check other great galleries and show some love.

As I told one of my other friends, comments and faves get out of control mighty quick. I try to keep up, and I worry sometimes someone gets lost in the shuffle. I just don't want people to think I'm too snotty to thank them.

I think as long as you try, it's all good. Also, to stay true to the people that supported you from the beginning. I mean, without your supporters where are you?

I'm rambling. :noes:

*nods* a good philosophy.

I tend to look at other people's :+fav: gallery, then I find something I like, then I go to that person's gallery, and before I know it, an hour has passed! o.0 It's crazy!

You're so right! We are almost TOO polite :D I don't always thank, but I try to. it can get overwhelming when you log on and have 75 new messages! Whew!

But it's all good. I love this place and out little community :)

Probably the best compliment is to visit the :+fav:ers gallery and give it a look and fav something back you like...if you don`t like anything, you can always fall back on the simple thank you :D

I still enjoy thanking and checking others works,it is time consuming though and I can see why some of those peeps who get`s 100`s and onto 1,000 of favs inside a day just don`t reply anymore.....unless they weld themselves to their PC`s for the nest 24 hours, they simply can`t.

I still thank to every one who comment on my page or answer one of my comments, but maybe just because I'm still kind of new and unknown so it's not that many people yet. :XD:

But I do get why people sometimes stopped commenting back.

I agree. I don't thank every comment that comes along, but I try to thank for the :+fav:'s. If there are multiples from that user, I won't thank them for each individual one, but rather for that whole group.

I dunno. I suppose it's just a habit that I developed. Though I must say that it's not a bad one.

I know that when I :+fav: someone's piece, they don't have to comment me to tell me that they appreciate it. But if they do, they do. I don't mind. And I don't mind telling people that I appreciate their :+fav:'s.

But if you want to go half and half on some of this stuff, you could tell someone thank you for a :+fav: once. And the next time they :+fav: your work, you don't have to tell them. Though I do suppose that would become confusing trying to keep up with all of those people. ;p

Oh look at me.. I've said a lot. Haha. Anyways, I like this article. Nice job. =)
