Even in times of war, the Soldier as an individual is of no consequence. The Soldier is a symbol, a simple pawn in a culture war. The Soldier is either a villain, or a Hero. The Soldier always serves for the honor of his country, not his paycheck. The Soldier is faithful, as there are 'no atheists in the trenches'. The Soldier is Combat Arms. The Soldier is male, he married a young white girl, and he has a baby on the way, whom he has never met.
The Soldier is a romantic ideal.

Various Artists Interpret Peace

reports, March 28, 2008Giving thought much to this word and term we call "Peace" I wanted to show in some small form the various ways artists here on dA have interpreted it.
Many claim that want world peace. Why we even have a motto thats says: "Visualize World Peace". We print bumper stickers with our mantras, T-shirts with the symbolic banner are worn, people flash the proverbial sign.. but what is peace? Can we paint it? Can we frame it? Can it be sculpted? Can it be created within and expressed without?
As much as lies within humankind we are to be at peace with all. However, if we are not at peace with ourselves can we be at peace really at all with anyone or anything else? Is it possible as long as humankind are as they are to even obtain peace?
Some optimists would say, YES! if we'd only give it a chance. Other observers of our world and our history would give a resounding, NO! our track record and psyche studies show it is impossible.
A friend told me today to take the statment: "I want peace" and remove the "I want" then what is left? Lesson one learned...
Enjoy this artists smattering of peace work presented by various talents here today... and all we are saying... is give it a chance. Afterall... what does it hurt?
