Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls:
In light of World Culture month, which for many is May, I would like to play host to a contest here on DA.
The theme of the contest is to choose a heritage from your own family background and to compare it to another culture in the world through art.
For example, I have chosen my northern icini roots to that of the lakota tribes of the sioux nation.
I would like to encourage all to participate and to share your ideas and thoughts on the subject. I seemed to have found it fascinating how two seemingly different cultures on the other side of the world were so similar in thought and beliefs. I also believe that as you study these cultures you may find something about your own you didn't know before and that can be the fun of it.
I would also like to encourage you to talk among eachother and work together on this. Art trades are especially suggested, for when two different people come together from what may seem like polar opposites, may just open the doors to true understanding.
The contest prizes:
1st prize: Recieve 1 year paid subscription from me and if you would like, a full blown, colored composition and a journal feature!
2nd prize: A 3 month paid subscription and also a composition from me as well as a journal feature!
3rd prize: A 1 month subscription and a "color-me-page: of any subject matter!
All entries must be submitted by May 1st. 2008 by note entitles "culture submission". Voting will begin May 3rd. 2008. If you are not participating, but would sitll like to vote, be sure to stop by for updates!

All submissions must prove that you did ample research on both your culture and the corresponding culture shown.
Anything is allowed as long as it is tasteful...I know some cultures practiced sacrafice and the such, but please, keep it pg-13 for all those who would also like to learn of these cultures.

Have fun with it, but just make sure it reflects how you envision it or reacted to the culture!
For example:
with mine I envisioned a lakota warrior on one side of a large tree with a Celtic woman on the other, doing pretty much the same thing. Because the similarites between these two cultures were so much the same i wondered what it would be like if they actually met, how would these two people react to each other?
I discovered that both the ancient celtic tribes and the tribes iof the sioux nation were very respectful and in touch with nature. They each celebrated the coming seasons, all be it in different ways, but they did still celebrate.
The title of the piece is called "the other side of the tree".
Thats just an example
Say if your family is anywhere greek, you could use astrology hand in hand with the Aztecs or the myans and how they viewed the stars.
