On Saturday, March 29, all around the world, people are being encouraged to turn their lights off for an hour between 8:00 and 9:00 PM wherever they are. It's an effort to conserve energy while making people everywhere aware of the small, simple, everyday things they can do to help save energy and work toward a cleaner, healthier earth. After all, there is only one planet earth and we have to share it.

The event is being orchestrated by the World Wildlife Fund, which hopes that this will turn into an annual event. They've created a Web site, earthhour.org, to keep participants up-to-date with a count-down, a list of supporters, tips and tools for energy and environmental conservation, and more. Supporters range from city newspapers, to apartment-renting college students, to the Google Web site (google.com), which has gone "dark" all day in order to raise awareness about the event.
