How to spot an Art Thief on dA

~Overlord-Uoru:iconOverlord-Uoru: reports, March 30, 2008
Many deviants on dA complain about art thieves and some decide to take them down themselves.
As many would agree, Art thieves are foolish for doing what they do, they would even go to the lengths of watermarking stolen work.
If you have had with art thieves, here are a few telltales signs on how to spot them and to prevent the mistake of supporting them:

1) Art Thieves usually have unoriginal usernames. e.g 'AnimeGirl707'
2) Art Thieves usually have really horrible spelling, and prefer to type in netspeak.
3) Art Thieves usually, stupidly, uploading their own art. Compare these to the stolen art.
4) They usually generate lies on how it had taken them 'hours and hours' to complete it.
5) The final sign is when they are confronted, they usually create excuses on how they made/uploaded it for/with a friend. Persist when confronting them as they usually break down at this point.

How to confront them.
1) Approach them calmly. Don't just rush into it all guns blazing.
2) Refrain from using any type of offensive language. As if you report them, they can be reported for harassment.
3) Always find the source image. As confontation is useless without evidence.
4 Always warn them of the consequences. As refusal to heed your warning is usually their downfall.
5 And most importantly, NEVER THREATEN THEM! you just might end up banned...
Thanks for reading. ;)

Rarely do you find an art theif out there that's actually smart.
But then again if you're smart you'd know not to steal owo

:iconoverlord-uoru:
those smart thieves are usually the ones who recieve the harder punishment.
:iconanime-honeybee:
Some other signs I've noticed, is that the stolen art is usually of suspiciously small resolution, has different signatures than other art in their gallery, and the description for the art is usually a sentence or two at the most. >__<!! We'll get those no good art thieves!

:iconsnowangell88:
man!art thieves are quite stupid..by stealing others art don't prove them smart..i call them losers, and idiots 'coz they never consider the original artist feelings inorder to gain popularity. you want fame and glory, you earn them honestly, not by stealing. to save your art from being stolen, watermark them...it'll be hard for them to steal it. ;)

I hate art thieves to a shocking extent. why they steal for fame is beyond me.

Dammit Sephy not you too!! I don't CARE how long it is!!! D<
:iconanime-honeybee:
uh I wouldn't worry about it. From what I've seen, yours are fairly sufficient to not be suspicious. The type of artist's comments I've noticed from art thieves is like "I wanted to draw a girl with bunnies" or "This is for my friend" "or *^__^* I drew this in class" These comments tend not to contain any information on how the art was created, or anything that would make you believe they have a personal connection to it. Some artists don't speak a lot of English and there are other reasons why one might not make longer comments, but it's just one thing to look out for if someone suspects an art thief. :)
