Kick Your Own @ss - ENTRIES

`MonicaWeasley:iconMonicaWeasley: reports, July 1
The only one I must compete with is...myself. And I'll always be the winner. :)

This contest wants on one hand to show that every single artist can improve (also motivate viewers to also keep practicing and never quit their art!) and that to improve is much more important to compare one's art with what it was in a previous moment, than compare it with other's art.

See You At the Fair!

^Kitten-of-Woe:iconKitten-of-Woe: reports, July 1
What are two traditional pastimes that make for some of the best summer memories? How about backyard grilling or making some other summertime recipe and going to the county fair? If you love to grill on the patio or the veranda or if you can make a pie, an icy beverage, or a frozen dessert that could take a blue ribbon, now you can combine the two and enter a Culinary Arts contest at the same time!

The Artisan Crafts gallery announces that during the month of July you can celebrate National Culinary Arts Month by taking a photo of a grilled main dish, a pie, an icy summer-time beverage, or a frozen dessert and you could possibly win both a ribbon and a prize! You also have the option of submitting a Culinary film tutorial.

MIMESIS Digital Chapbook Initiative: Competition!

`PoeticWar:iconPoeticWar: reports, March 30, 2008
To celebrate the launch of the new website for the Mimesis poetry journal, we're running a miniature chapbook competition. Details are as follows:

A chapbook is a small collection of poems that complement each other in some way -- whether by direct narrative relationship, or simple thematic links.

:bulletred: A maximum of 15 poems or (reasonably sized) pages, whichever is shorter. Minimum of 10.

:bulletred: Entries should be in PDF format. If pressed, we will accept .DOC as well.

:bulletred: We invite you to lay out your chapbook however you choose. Be creative! You can include illustrations, formatting -- anything you like, really.

:bulletred: Material previously published in journals is acceptable. Poems must not have appeared in books or pamphlets, however (except anthologies).

:bulletred: Entries should be emailed to chapbooks@mimesispoetry.com by midnight GMT on 30th of June 2008.

:bulletred: Entries will be judged by all the Mimesis staff: `PoeticWar, `bananaprincess, *Negated, ~Boogster and Todd Swift. We will be looking for cogency between the poems and some experimental thinking.

:bulletred: The best entrant will receive a three-issue subscription to Mimesis. The best five will be published online on the Mimesis site, and extracts will be published in the journal itself (of which the poets will naturally receive contributors copies).

:bulletred: Have fun! If you have any questions, feel free to ask below and we'll do our best to respond.

Needless to say, if anyone thinks they can help out in any way (prizes, pimping, or anything you like, please do send us a note or message below).

It's also important to understand that this competition is open to anybody -- whether they have dA accounts or not. Because of this, please include your dA user name with your submissions so that entries can be properly tracked and prizes properly awarded.

:pointr: Please note that your submission to this competition must be exclusive to this competition; i.e., you cannot submit to both this and another chapbook competition (since we ask for first online publication rights for the collections, should they win/shortlist/etc). Thanks!
