We apologize for the downtime you experienced today. It would seem some Christmas elves got into the hardware and made a right mess of things.
In truth it was some unexpected maintenance downtime as we added two new load balancers to help handle growing traffic.

Now Playing: deviantART Film!

$lolly:iconlolly: reports, Sep 29, 2007
Film as a word conjures up something special. A unique feeling. Almost a different texture than words like movie or video. When someone asks you to go see a movie on the weekend you think, “Oh cool, that’ll be fun,” but if someone asks you to go to a film festival the feeling you get is entirely different...

Introducing Automatic Subscription Renewals!

$hexentanz:iconhexentanz: reports, Aug 2, 2007
Quite often we receive the suggestion from users that we should offer an automatic renewal option as part of the deviantART subscription service. Reasons for this particular request are numerous and range from deviants not always remembering to renew their subscription before it expires to deviants not wanting to experience service interruptions and desiring a more automated process.

Based on these requests, we're happy to announce that we have launched a new "Automatic Subscription Renewals" feature.

This is a great way to find types of art I like. I've been watching the most popular collections for a while now, and finding all sorts of fun stuff I'd never have found on my own!

Made some friends and acquaintances too.

The problem I have with this is that it often does a pretty poor job of showcasing... what's the word I'm looking for... art?

I've been watching this page since it first showed up a week or so ago. On Day 1, 25% of the collections on that page were stamp collections. I look at it right now, there's one collection of 1 and one collection titled "Ugliest Things I've Seen" (and it's appropo).

There needs to be some work on the formula that gauges "popular" collections. And, if you ask me, a collection of 1 shouldn't be treated as a collection.

All in all, a good addition, but it's incomplete. I look forward to seeing improvement in future months.

dygel, think about it. The formula is there, and it works. There isn't much popularity data to work with as yet - it was only launched 12 minutes ago, and we update the index on 15 minute cycles.

The most popular COLLECTIONS hit the top of the list. The collector may or may not have your definition of good taste - we're showcasing POPULAR taste.

It is my hope that deviants can help the process of identifying ART by faving/collecting those best collections thereof.

Yes, we expect deviant participation to bring us improvement in the future months. The problem you have with this should soon disappear. The formula is already in place.
