Why does it seem like there is no acknowledgment of the mass human rights abuse being committed by the Chinese government even as we speak?
For one thing, the Chinese oil companies are in bed with the Sudanese government. Money from China's oil investments in Sudan are helping fuel the mass-genocide committed by the Janjaweed in Darfur. The more oil China pumps in Sudan,
the more people die. Luckily, there is pressure on China to withdrawl its assets from Sudan, but will it be enough to make China take its companies from the country?
Furthermore, for almost 50 years China has occupied Tibet, and recently the Chinese government orchestrated a mass media blackout so that American news corps could not cover the story, and so that we would have to rely on propaganda from their government and not see or hear of the human right abuses occurring there. China has been using force to oppress peaceful protesters, even claiming that the Buddhist monks were becoming "suicide bombers(which anyone with even passing knowledge of Buddhism knows is blatantly incorrect)."
There also seems to be minmmal coverage of this on DA's "news" section, as the April fool's joke has drowned it out, aside from a few articles with minimal views. I ask you, what's more important? A stupid little april fool's joke involving mudkips, or the lives of untold thousands?
I thought the joke was funny, don't get me wrong, but I think this is far more important.
We need to spread the word and help both the people of Tibet and Darfur. For more information, vsit the following sites:
