`SparrowSong on writing, critique and her passions

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, September 28
An interview with writer, critic (critiquer?), lit senior, `SparrowSong. Here are some tidbits:

“I like that my passions change. If nothing else, it gives me more to write about.”

“Everyone has heard the expression, ‘Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.’ If you don’t learn to critique, you will always be dependent on others to help you instead of being able to do it by yourself.”

“Art changes how we view the surface of the world to reveal truth or beauty—or both—underneath.”

Staff Openings

PoetryPlease is currently seeking new staff for various areas of the club. We need to replenish our staff with new, eager, reliable and talented members. The variety of positions available means that almost any interest can be fulfilled. Keep reading for a listing of the different areas of the club available.

-------------------------------------------------------
Professional Review Team (PRT) Staff

You will be the manager of a small list of clients. Your responsibility will be to critique their poetry on a regular basis (preferably once per week). All clients of the PRT sought a critiquer, so no worries about them balking at your criticism - they asked for it! So you can just sit back, read, and enjoy watching the art unfold before you as your client grows, learns, and comes to understands how to write more beautifully everyday. And hopefully, you can attribute much of that to your tutelage.

The Favorites Project (TFP) Staff

You will be responsible for searching for poetry that deserves some recognition and recommending it to TFP. All suggested poems are compiled and then sent out for you and the rest of the staff vote on. If a majority of the staff agree with you that your suggestion poem should be widely recognized, you'll see it promoted in one of TFP's weekly features. And of course, you'll get the credit.

PoetryPlease Workshop Staff

You will take part in a monthly review of two or three poems that have been submitted to the workshop for an in-depth analysis. Usually this is done via chat room discussion.

Chat Room Staff

Possibly the easiest and most fun job known to man, the chat room staff are simply responsible for chatting in the PoetryPlease chat room, maintaining a presence during certain hours and making sure people are following the rules. You even get to boot them when they don't! How cool is that?

Administrative Staff

Don't want public acknowledgement or any direct responsibility for managing people? How about just being responsible for making sure everybody is added as members, the journals are kept up to date, and everything is organized. This is the place for all those who like behind the scenes type work.

Creative Staff

How would you like to create eye catching news articles and funky advertisements for PoetryPlease and it's branches. How about coming up with new contests and challenges to present to the members. If you think you're creative, funny, and perhaps a little zaney, this just might be the right place for you!
---------------------------------------------------------

Do any of these positions sound interesting to you? Then APPLY NOW!.

But wait! You need to first be a member of PoetryPlease in order to be on staff. JOIN TODAY.

Regarding TFP; the suggested poems, It doesn't matter who is the poet?
a DA memeber or famous writer, poet?
Wherever, whoever?

generally, it does not matter. We do not, however, want to feature pieces that already have received DD's, and if the poet already has tens of thousands of pageviews, use your discretion. We want to feature people who aren't a walking advertisement for themselves, you know?
