Introduction

Welcome to the weekly Help Desk Updates. In these weekly updates we will attempt to bring you the most up to date news concerning the Help Desk & FAQ, as well as provide some helpful hints for super duper deviantART fun.

It should be noted that this update is actually for the week of March 31st to April 4th. I apologize that it was late, unfortunately real life issues delayed me.

Continuing on with the FAQ Spring Cleaning project, the first phase of the major cleanup is completed and all entries that needed to be removed have been removed. I will now begin phase two of this project (yes a pinch late) and begin updating any entries that need updating.

Have you ever wondered how your camera data gets on your deviation pages? Many digital cameras store information about your camera and the photograph as EXIF data. If your camera adds EXIF data to your photographs, then this data will be automatically extracted during the submission process to be added to your deviation.

EXIF data normally includes, date and time the photo was taken, resolution, camera settings for the particular shot (ISO, shutter speed, aperture, etc), whether the flash was used, camera model, etc.

But what if you don't want this information to be displayed? There are three easy ways to disable your EXIF data from being shown. If you don't want the data at all you can find out from your camera manual on how to disable the feature. However if you have an image editing program you can copy and paste your image file into a new blank file or if you have Photoshop you can use the save for web feature. Using an image-editing program is your best bet as you can keep the EXIF data for yourself for future reference and you can still keep your data hidden for public display.

What do I do if my friend gave their username? How do I find them on deviantART?

If you know your friend's username simply go to our homepage, [link] and replace the "www" with the username in your browser's address bar and click go. This will take you straight to your friend's userpage.

You can also search by a deviant's username using these codes in the search bar:

by:y2jenn pulls up deviations that have been submitted by $y2jenn.

sketch cards by:y2jenn** pulls up sketch card deviations that have been submitted by $y2jenn that have "sketch card" in their title, description or keywords.

If you still cannot find your friend make sure you have their username spelled correctly and aren't leaving out any dashes or numbers. They might be sneaky like $chix0r and toss a "0" into the mix just to confuse ya!
