DENYING THE POVERTY DRAFT-THE SOLDIER AS A SYMBOL

=whitetrashpalace:iconwhitetrashpalace: reports, July 9
The Poverty Draft, Politics, Symbols, and the inconvenience of being human.

Even in times of war, the Soldier as an individual is of no consequence. The Soldier is a symbol, a simple pawn in a culture war. The Soldier is either a villain, or a Hero. The Soldier always serves for the honor of his country, not his paycheck. The Soldier is faithful, as there are 'no atheists in the trenches'. The Soldier is Combat Arms. The Soldier is male, he married a young white girl, and he has a baby on the way, whom he has never met.

The Soldier is a romantic ideal.

Odds are, you'll be long dead before people can make money off of your stuff.

Well, Enexodia, it sounds like you support the bill. In the case of dead or unconcerned artists I could support legalizing use by others. However, I did read the article and it appears that they are trying to slip a well financed private interest by us. In particular the creation of private registries to regulate what is orphaned and what is not. Orphan works already exist (i.e. abandonware). If the bill were simply a proposed solution for artists or fans who wish to update or redistribute these abandoned creations then I would support it too. However, this would be legal extortion. You pay private parties not to use your work or suffer any consequences that may occur. While it holds a certain "mafia" romanticism, there is a reason why such behavior is illegal on the streets, as it should continue to be in the world of art and creativity. And so I urge everyone here to sign petitions, write your congressman, whatever you can do to stop this from happening.
