Once more, the Public Domain Enhancement Act is creating a controversy here on devART. As well as other sites.
The Public Domain Enhancement Act, simply referred to as PDEA in this article, will require every artwork to be registered to gain copyright. And for a fee as well! This includes both new AND old art!
Many artists that are already on a tight budget in real life will clearly suffer from this, particularly those that are only doing this for a hobby or similar. Even some of dA's biggest artists will have a high chance of noticing this in the form of a falcon punch.
Now, do note that this isn't just only your webdesigns, or your commercial drawings, but every piece of "art", including family pictures on Facebook, sketches.
Anything that is shared with the internet, most notably, will be free to use if it isn't registered. That picture you put up on Facebook of your wife and her child could be used in a magazine without even notifying you.
The PDEA will contradict the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well, some say. Most importantly they point to article #17 and article #27, listed below.
Article 17.
Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others.

No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.
Article 27.
Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.

Everyone has the right to the protection of the moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary or artistic production of which he is the author.

same thing like with the w3c who wanted to make profit when they do patent links, they failed
i see black for those who try to make profit of such an idea, nice try but there will be to many oppositions, just think on stock photo sellers,i mean those who distribute professionally...
design agencies could use any usable files they can find on the net?...
no way, there is a big machine behind all that, and if politicans can´t gain taxes because everything would now be free usable? this would be an april´s fool(a good one though) but no way...sorry.

The reason I posted this was more to make people aware--or inform.
Currently the best reason why something like the PDEA would pass was because too many were left in the dark about it before it was too late.

and FAQ #711: Can I remove or edit a news article I have submitted?

In any case, I'll just be ignoring the article's existence for now.
If staff decides to remove it, then sure, let 'em, I'll just let them do that on their own accord rather than pester them.

The way they were obviously going to do it is out of the question for me, though.
